YAY! ANOTHER THREAD!

You can't stop me. You're not me. You're a hamburger.

Well, pretty much stated in the title, there. Do you?

I don't quite know what it is. Maybe it's a fear of coming across as stalkerish. Although that would be kinda funny, I guess. To my sense of humour. It's particularly strange when it comes to popular members. NO! Do not send friend requests to them! They are the elite! You are a peasant! They probably get ten requests a day, they'll send their doom soldiers after you!

Something like that.

Eh, from what I've seen most people on the escapist are pretty grounded and willing to talk to anyone who messages them. My hard and fast rule is that I'll only friend people who send me a request or a have a funny or amusing exchange with on the forums. I don't really seem to get involved with many people more than a handful of times and I've never been active on the user groups. I mostly just lurk.

MAGIC

That's why!

OT: If someone friends me first, right back at you! :D

But I want to be WANTED as a friend; I want to earn it!

Yep, I have no idea why but I can't do it, I cannot send friend requests, and not just here, when I played MMOs I would sometimes have a great time with someone but not friend him, I pretty much just friend whoever friends me but I will never send someone a friend request, then again considering that even in real life I only have one friend, and whoever else I have a good time with, it's pretty much just for that day and I never talk to them again, I sometimes see them but won't talk to them, so I guess I just have trouble making any sort of friends.

Well, this is problematic...

And the only time I've sent a friend request is if they've sent me one.

This... just this. Making friends has always been a mystery to me. There's this girl who I get along with really well every time we end up meeting at parties, the pub, ect and generally talk all night with one another. We even have each other phone numbers, but we never meet outside of these random encounters. It seems a bit silly really, but it's unlikely to change any time soon. Been this way for a good three years or so now.

It is difficult for me... But I confess to being awful at internet communication. I can make friends in real life just fine, I'm no social butterfly for certain but I can talk to people at least somewhat easily. But it seems on the internet I fade into the background and generally don't seem to be acknowledged. And since I don't try to friend anyone unless they friend me first that tends to leave me pretty alone. =P

I friend request people if I talk to them enough since I know a lot of people here just wait to be friend requested. I will also accept almost any friend request even if I talked to the user or not, I like to think that they friended me because they think I'm cool so I friend them back since they are cool for thinking I am cool. As for popular members I don't know if I would be considered one since I hardly ever post in the off topic but someone did call me a legend awhile back but I digress. A lot of the more popular users that I know usually are very good at responding to PMs and such and will usually accept friend requests and friend you back but that is just my experience with the matterr

There are 2 kinds of people in the world; people with lots of friends and people with a small number of actual friends.

If you're in the latter group you will naturally find it harder to assign the sobriquet "friend" to some random who agreed with you that farts are better than burps. You will want to assign it when something more meaningful comes to pass, such as them agreeing to pepsi being better than coke or that roller coasters are scary.

Also there is familiarity.

Ah, I have no problem with being friend-requested, but when it comes to actually sending a request to someone, I'm stopped by something.

And for all the people who find hamburgers problematic, you are no longer hamburgers.

You are cheeseburgers.

Yeah, I kinda feel this way too. I dunno what it is about forum communities, but I have trouble really making any friends. However, for some reason I'm able to talk to people in MMOs quite easily, but here? I keep to myself often.

I mean, I love this community and many of the people in it, but I don't like being the first person to send friend requests, ever...so yeah. Haven't really made any friends here yet.

I think about 10% of the people who send me a friend request actually talk to me >_<
I dunno if they're just after the friending badge or whatever.
Sometimes I get messages I'm too busy to reply to or forget about and then I feel bad when I remember it a few weeks later.

If I've done that with you, I'm soooorrrry.

I usually only send them if we've had an exchange in the thread.

Or if they're from Yorkshire too because we're the best and should be in a team.

[Sends friend request] Hey, what are you wearing right now?

OT: No not really.. I just.. find forums very impersonal anyway, so I don't tend to that much.

I have never really bothered sending out friend requests on the forum, does it do anything?

If I see someone I recognize then I just think "Oh hey it's that guy. I usaully agree with him" or "This guy usaully lay's out some good points", even "Oh it's this guy, I hate this guy".

I don't really want to send out friend requests.

EDIT: Somebody just added me as a friend. I no longer have my status of having no friends on this forum.

I like getting friend requests, I'm a bit more selective about when I will send one though.
Probably cause I expect to get a message back like `***** I don't like you!`. =P

I'll send a friend request if I see someone often on the forums being awesome or if we generally get on.

I find it weird as well. I friended someone who I always find in the threads I browse and I always seem to agree with out of curiosity, but I didn't actually send a message to him/her. Is that creepy?

Stop this (tasty) witchcraft!

OT: Well, I guess I have a problem. I mean I "grew up" in forums with no befriending options, so I am not used to this yet. I do have people I want to send friend requests to...but I am not exactly sure why would I do that. I mean, on GameFAQs, at least when you friend/follow a user, you get to see their comments highlighted. And I like that - if something like this was implemented here, I'll totally go friend a bunch of people. As it stands, though, I am not exactly sure why to do it - after all, as I said, I'm used to "friendless" forums, so I just take some extra care to notice if they've commented or not.
