Does anybody else not appear in their dreams?

So I was reading up on lucid dreaming and how to do it (Because why the hell not?) And I saw that most of the things are to do with what I am doing in my dreams.
Problem. I am never in my dreams. It's like I've walked into a cinema halfway through a random movie when I go to sleep. I rarely know who the actors are, or what is going on. And I don't mean I'm seeing through the eyes of another person or anything, I mean exactly what you would see in a cinema, except I can't see anything except the screen.
And then if I wake up and don't want to get out of bed, I can just fall asleep again and continue watching.

So my question is this, and I hate to ask but I can't think of another way to phrase it: Am I the only one?

That happens to me, but it seems like you need to find yourself in the dream, a character in it might represent yourself, you just need to realize it. Or everyone there represents you and it gets tricky >.<

My meds cause me to have "vivid and disturbing nightmares" ever night as a side-effect. I'm in every one of them and every one of them seems real at the time and real terrifying, lol.

fuck I cant even remember 99.9% of my dreams once I wake up.

I do get the feeling about wanting to go back to sleep and keep dreaming though since I usually remember if it was an awesome or bad dream =p

Sorry to hear that - that you're on, I think, the same sort of med as me and that you have those nightmares, I mean.

*hug*

Bit hard when I'm looking from the outside in and I have no idea what's going on. But I could try and pay attention when I go to bed today.

E gads. I dearly hope I never need any medication like that. D:

No, I can't say I've ever experienced that. On the rare occasion I even remember my dreams, I'm usually looking through my own eyeballs or observing myself, 3rd person like.

I was on something like that for a long time, it really is horrible. They feel so real, it's hard to get separate it from real life when you wake up sometimes. makes you feel like crap all day. Luckily i am not on that medication anymore.

I'm in almost all of my dreams, but always in the first person perspective, so i never really see myself.

Most modern antidepressants have a chance to cause it. Just depends on your brain chemistry. I'm one of the lucky ones who gets extremely messed up nightmares every night. Yay :p

They usually revolve around me or someone I know and love being tortured or held prisoner and raped. There's sometimes a lot of gore, but mostly it's just mind-fuckery like people not being who they seem, limbs bending the wrong way, lots of screaming, crying and freaking out.

Sucks, lol. But totally worth it.

I'm generally in my dreams, can't remember a time when I haven't been.
Sometimes my dreams are really realistic though, and when I feel emotions in dreams it is sometimes very strong - I will always be haunted by a dream where there was an explosion/fire at my school, almost everyone died. It felt devastating, I have never felt like this in my whole life. I couldn't even begin to comprehend the trauma, and it was emotionally devastating - then I woke up.

For the vast majority I'm in my own body or observing myself, but I have had sequences when I am not present.

I have no draw to lucid dreaming as the vast majority of the time I'm doing what I want to do, and I want a little bit of randomness to react to.

I guess for you, you need to think that the camera is you. Aim to crystallise yourself into the viewing entity rather than it being a "something".

I've had third person dreams sometimes, but I'm still in it. Once saw my head blown up from aliens and spent ages staring at my body like an in-game post death camera.

Well that type of perspective during a dream is kind of rare to me. I mostly have first person dream and in third person a few time. I rarely had that type of dream where I'm not in it or another character supposes to represent me.

But then I feel I'd need to incorporate this new character into the story.

Well that's wonderful! But I'm still going to stay in this corner being slightly horrified. :D

Lol. Okay.

Last night's one was pretty awesome, actually. Kind of like a thriller movie. At one point my mum came to see me in a prison type complex. She pulled out her chair and sat down, but her arm bent backwards (the elbow moved forward). I had to sit there and pretend it was my mum for the rest of the meeting, knowing full well it was "something" either inside my mum or pretending to be her.
