Does anybody know of any virtual pet games where I can have intelligent conversations with the pet?

Lately I've been thinking about getting a pet, but I don't want to have to do so much work so I was thinking a fish. But then, I thought, I'd have to leave the house and go buy a tank and change the water and everything and that's all too much bother, so maybe a video game could scratch my itch. Then I started thinking that since I don't get out much I could also use some social interaction so if the game also allowed for conversation mechanics with the pet that'd be even better and I could forgo contact with actual human beings for another several months. So ideally I'll be able to care for the pet and watch it grow and change, feeding it and everything, all the while carrying on engaging discussions about our lives and existence and place in the world.

So does anybody know of any games like this? Any console generation is fine, I have access to a good number of them.

Any game by Bioware, although in their recent games the conversations arnt that intelligent... That was a joke.

In all seriousness i don't think so. To be honest the only thing I can think of that even closely resembles this is Animal Crossing and that's more looking after a town filled with animals than looking after pets.

Seconding Animal Crossing, though it's not a virtual pet game.

However, if you go for one of the newer titles (like New Leaf), you can actually visit other people's towns and chat to them/just hang out in general. It's pretty sweet! (And should allow you to benefit from social interaction on your own terms.)

About the only pet raising game that immediately springs to mind for me is Sonic Adventure 2: Battle because of the Chao Garden thing, but the port to PC has always been a bit glitchy for me (and you can't really interact with your Chao beyond pets/cuddles).

Might be worth a shot, though! :3

I can think of several. The pets never seem to talk back, though.

On a more serious note I'm surprised Digimon never capitalized on this. It's the one advantage it had over Pokemon.

You were just baiting someone to post this weren't you? :p

I suppose, if you like talking to a fish with a man's face who constantly insults you with a voice like a deadpan George Takei, this is the game for you!
Ah yes, the horror classic where the real horror is your life.

There's a story behind this amazing masterpiece of fiction, and I want to know what it is. I distinctly remember this being promoted on Toonami, alongside some weird pervert simulator where you play as a mosquito. Toonami was fucking weird, man.

Whenever I want to have a conversation with a virtual pet, I just log onto an online forum, such as this one.

Wow, yes, that's perfect! Just what I wanted! Thanks!
Baiting, though? I don't really know what you mean by that, but I did want a game about fish, so I guess?

After checking this game out, I have to say, I love Seaman! I can't wait to play with my Seamen every day! It looks like there's so many ways you can interact with your Seamen. You can handle your Seamen, feed your Seamen, make more Seamen, and Leonard Nimoy will even give you information about your Seamen!

Also, after looking the game up I found that the AVGN did a review about the game which, in my opinion, is pretty good.
So, everybody should watch that!
