Does anyone around here play the old rogue-like games?

Hi, I recently got into Nethack (Vulture version) again and started wondering if any forumites around here are into the rogue-like games. So do you play any of them?

I personally love Nethack. Nowadays when games are so easy (yes, I know about Dark Souls, you don't have to mention it) it's a delight to die a permanent death from food poisoning that you got from a fortune cookie.

I play 'em quite a lot. Not any of the really complicated ones mind. Recently I've been playing Tales of Maj'eyal, it's very fun, but ridiculously unbalanced. Rogues are a pile of dick but the fact that mages start with a badass upgradable golem that can get LASER EYES just seals the deal.

I played Nethack a lot last year, no special version just the Windows GUI one.
Never got really far but enjoyed Wizards and Rangers, and love the permadeath which I tend to now play on games that have it (i.e Torchlight)

Then I got Dungeons of Dredmor last month and hated it for a while, but once I got over the fact it's not Nethack I had fun. It's nice in it's own way but really doesn't have anywhere near as much going on. I recommend it for people who have never played a roguelike before as it's really easy to get into compared.

Doubt I'll ever ascend in Nethack though.

I remember when I was first playing Nethack.... It's not a very accessible game, I admit xD

I rather enjoy dungeon crawl:stone soup I also love nethack and if you want one that has the text characters I recommend kangband or some variation of. I may have to try out tales of maj'eyal.

I really like Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup, probably the only oldschool roguelike I play now-a-days.
Though back in university our computer graphics lab computers all had nethack installed on them

Etrian Odyssey FTW! 1 was overpowered, 2 was balanced, 3 used all different classes. Can't wait for 4.
