This isn't going to be some deep musical conversation but I just feel weirdly compelled to ask: does anyone else ever feel like they just don't like music?

I keep trying to force myself into liking certain music and I succeed briefly but after a while I always just scrap it all and start building my library again. The only songs that have been a permanent fixture is the soundtrack from Chicago.

Seriously, I feel like I'm just weird. Cause I listen to music all the fucking time but I never really remember it, it's just background noise most of the time that I forget exists the moment I turn it off. Almost every artist, song, and genre ends up like that for me.

I dunno, maybe I'm just weird. Or maybe I just haven't found the genre or style that most appeals to me.

Maybe you just don't have a love for music. There's nothing wrong with that as long as you don't try to become a music reviewer.

It's not that I don't love it, it's that I don't even seem to like it. I want to because I have the shit playing whenever I'm on my laptop and not watching a video, so it just makes me feel like a freak that I don't seem to enjoy music. Honestly the nearest I can get is the aforementioned Chicago soundtrack and movie trailer music.

What genre's have you tried may I ask?

Honestly don't worry, no ones tastes are correct, if you don't like music in general, you don't like music in general.

I don't like music consistently and tend to like one off's. Single pieces of music... and that tends to be bad... really bad...

Shadow the fucking hedgehog soundtrack bad >.>

I do tend to like quite a lot of the Miracle of Sound stuff:

Just all really catchy, and lovely. Some are a bit of a joke but :D

Give music a try but look around for "alternative" stuff.
I am such a snob in terms of Music and its bloody difficult for me to find stuff I like (so well done to MoS xD), its either just ridiculously bad, or good but hidden.

Fuck, I love music from 1800's more than the shit produced by the system today >.>
Over the Hills and far away over 99% of the shit that pops out.

Out of all the Stuff to come out I can Tolerate Gaga's stuff at least as its not churned out by a bloody machine.

At the risk of making you sound like a hipster (which is certainly not my intention, ahahaha...), you just don't seem to like 'mainstream' music. It seems that you like the instrumental music you find in games and movies. This is probably a stupid question, but if have you tried listening to classical music? It's got those qualities.

And if you're not really into music all that much, it's no big deal, if you're asking me. People have made into way to much of a 'thing'. It's becoming a bit of social and status symbol, and that's ridiculous. You're totally awesome no matter what you're listening to, or if you're listening to anything at all :3

So... Yeah. True story.

When I was a teenager, being the stupid kid that I was, I only claimed to like rock/metal music and shunned everything else.

Which is fucking stupid.

Now, if I hear music and I like it, I don't care it's rap, RnB, jazz, classical, big band, country, reggae, metal, electronic, dubstep etc.

I like good music, regardless of genre.

I used to think that for the longest time, then I realized I was looking in the wrong sections. I just tried a bunch of genres and saw, hey, orchestral music kinda kicks ass.

Well you like the Chicago OST (good choice by the way), right? So why don't you try to look up music that's the same style. Big band music like Benny Goodman:
Or Dean Martin:
Or anything of the sort really. There's a wealth of big band and swing jazz material out there, and you seem to like that.

As for me, now I'm not really like that. Just today I discovered a new band in a genre I barely listen to, and I'm a total fan already.

I've always felt that music was just an aspect of socialization, and like any other such method, some become attached to it and some don't. Myself, I'm a musician, in the sense that I was taught to play several instruments since I was four, and as a result reflexively break a song into its elements without even thinking about it. Of course there were people I would sit next to in band classes raised in much the same situation without the same results. To them it was only so much noise, sort of just another chore their parents forced them into. I noticed with interest these people were more likely to not do well in or enjoy classes focused on maths and literature.

The point being enjoyment of music is extremely subjective, to the point that some don't like it at all. There's nothing strange about not being interested in music. Since I'm sort of an expert on strange, I think you can take that with a decent amount of salt ^_^"

Personally, I like alternative metal with jazz influences, often leaning toward the gothic. This makes sense considering the environment I was raised in, and that I used to PLAY jazz.

Everyone's different so it's nothing to be worried about. I personally don't really enjoy movies too much. Different forms of art speak to people differently.

Well, it's not that I stop liking entire genres out of the blue, but yeah, ''favorite bands'' come and go. It's been Queen, Dire Straits, AC/DC, Linkin Park, basically everything in that region.

When I have to say ''I don't like this'', it becase it's proven guilty of not being good. But For me to say this, I have to listen to the song, because so far there has only been one genre in which I haven't found a single song I like. (If you are wondering, I'm talking about pirate music. Is that what they call it in English? I'm not botherd enough to find out. Stuff like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eh7l3nTCNh4)

Anyways, just keep trying until you find something you really like. And it's not weird or anything, at least from my point of view, you just get bored of genres every now and again.

Some people don't like music, there is nothing wrong with that. I used to play guitar and listen to tons of music, but then I got bored of it and found other interests.

I think it's weird that you play music all the time even though you don't like it. I say, be true to yourself, always consider what you want before copying what other people are doing.

Music is strange. I used to hardly ever listen to music, never seemed to find anything I liked or would buy CDs because other people liked them and would listlessly sift through a collection of stuff I'd just put away and not listen to anyway.

I did band for like 8 years, but still didn't really listen to music much, except on bus trips to wherever for school, because those trips were awfully boring. I enjoyed playing music, but hardly listened to anything.

But that started to change over time, I dunno when it started but it seems like a few years ago, during college, I found a new appreciation for music and seeing it live with groups of people, then when I started a job where music was the only escape from a dreadful and noisy monotony of work, I started to appreciate it a lot more. Now hardly a day goes by where I'm not logging an easy 200+ plays on whatever music service/device is handy, regardless of what I'm doing that day.

I'm always finding new and wonderful stuff that I like, and suddenly have found myself attending concerts and shows like crazy, and having a blast doing it. I'm finding a new appreciation for all kinds of different music, and find myself responding to it more and more.

You never know, you just haven't found what you like yet, or just haven't had any experiences that may color your appreciation of it. It happens. But you never know, I bet you just haven't found your own tastes yet.

Nope. But if you do like some cabaret or swing type music, here's some recommendations.

Or if you want completely random selections, we can do that too.
