I used to have one particular concern, the distinctive clicking of a Terror Drone in RA2. Too fast to target, can decimate battalions of tanks, desolators and Yuris.

I don't know if this counts but the scariest gaming related thing ever for me is EA getting a hold of game I loved and publishing a squeal, I haven't been paying attention and recent found out Mass Effect 2 is being publish by EA, just this fact means it won't be as good as the first.

Ya gotta be scared of glitches when I have made lots of progress and not saved for a while.
Maybe. I've made it a habit in games over the last few years to save on every drastic environmental change. I hate backtracking (or would it be forward tracking? hmm?) It's definitely made the gaming experience that much easier over the years. Unless it's chapter based or something like HL2, and all the auto saves take care of all the dirty work for me. I don't know. I have certain unwritten protocol for certain games...

The one I watched was the fight against The Fifth Colossus, the bird-like one on the lake. Now as I watched Wander swim to the beast, I found myself getting nervous. In life, I love being in or on the water. In games? It scares the living daylight outta me. For one thing, you can't see if somethings coming out from under you until it's too late to get away. You can't hear anything, period. You can't access your arsenal underwater, thus rendering you defenseless.
In that case I suggest you do NOT watch a video of the underwater colossus. You have to go DEEP in the water with it to finish it off.

HOWEVER if you wanna overcome your phobia of water in videogames, play Mario Sunshine. I just LOVE going in the water in that game. Hell, I love everything about that game.

Carp.

Cats. "Breeding like rabbits" is the understatement of the century.

And in my modded version of FO3, water. If I swim, I get 50 rads a second. That's 20 seconds of exposure required to kill me. Getting into the bow of Rivet City was hell.

It's Dorf; no matter what you say, it's Dorf.

Due to an upcoming retrospective review i'm writing, I needed something to compare Twilight Princess's graphics to. Now, I have not played Shadow of the Colossus since my PS2 broke, so I was a little hazy on the details, and from my memories they looked remarkably similar. But, memories fade, so I found myself on Youtube looking up SoTC videos. The one I watched was the fight against The Fifth Colossus, the bird-like one on the lake. Now as I watched Wander swim to the beast, I found myself getting nervous. In life, I love being in or on the water. In games? It scares the living daylight outta me. Mine is a fear of open water in gaming: what's yours?

TL:DR Version: What makes you scared in games?
I actually have that same fear. The worst was Mario 64 with that giant eel thing in the water, oh man that thing freaked me out. The manta ray wasn't any better.

Well now I HAVE to watch the underwater colossus. Off to Youtube!

*watches video*

I have two comments.

1. I forgot how pretty this game is.
2. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Basically any kind of section that requires carefully planned jumping from platform to platform. Ninja Gaiden 2, I'm looking at you.

Also that familar blue shell about to tear my dreams of first place to pieces.

Surprisingly Fable 2 had some parts that creeped the hell of me, like the bit in the Balverine hall when you see shadows move around the corner. Also the aforementioned winter cottage bit.

Call of Duty World at War Nazi Zombies was initally very creepy for me, I felt it was very well constructed, the music being the biggest factor.

You already took my fear T_T

Erie open water levels where you're just swimming along, underwater levels where you may or may not have enemies to attack you and most likely have an air meter. When sharks are involved and you can only run away.

Damn you water. Damn you to hell.

Now there are somethings that scare me and things that make me nervous because I hate it.
I have a fear of open water in gaming, when You can't access your arsenal(ether because of an achievement or the game doesn't let you) and your in a monster infested area.

Now for things that make me nervous because I hate them.
When I go through a checkpoint with very low health and then, as soon as I go through, I'll die. And when I re spawn I get stuck in an infantry loop, glitches,Being the last person in a game(because my team mates leave during a game) leaving a huge score difference.

Ugh, do NOT remind me of that cottage. As soon as I got inside and the lights shut off, I booked it upstairs (there had to be SOMETHING there!) grabbed the sword, and sprinted as fast as I could out of there. Creepy as hell.

"Oh! What a quaint and lovely home! I should move in with my wife and chi-AAAAAAAAAAAUGH FUCK!"

That was the only part of Fable II that I enjoyed, really. Well, not ENJOYED, but I remember that part.

Back in the day though, anyone remember the first Flood level in Halo: CE? It's so quiet, and lonely. The only time in Halo when you aren't shooting at something. You just knew something was wrong. Then the marine falls at you, and I even jumped a bit the first time. You watch his video records, and after all is said and done... You realize you're in that same room. I'm not going to lie, that scared the hell out of me.

It's funny you mention Shadow of the Colossus since it essentially encapsulates my two biggest fear in one game. Now, this isn't necessarily an "In-Game" fear since this is something that I also fear in real life but I'm terribly afraid of things that are much larger than me in scale and wide open spaces which are empty.

Any scenario where your pressured by a time limit on the spot. For example, when you're in the neurotoxin from Portal.

actually, most of my in-game fears come from Resident Evil 4...

i've always had a fear of the undead, but having them chase me down with chainsaws makes it so much worse. those guys being faster than the other zombies freaks me out and pisses me off at the same time.
i always hate when i'm just about to go and fight the giant lake monster. it's almost as bad as chainsaw wielding undead. but i think the worst part about that fight is when the rope is around your leg and you can get dragged under if you're not paying attention.

also, nothing fills me with more dread than the moment before Ashley comes into the picture. RE4 is the only escort mission game i will ever play...
