I get scared any time I enter an open area because generally I play shooters on the hardest difficulty. This poses a problem because i KNOW the second i step out into the open my face will be sporting several new and fashionable bullet holes. I hate the open.

Same as OP. Deep. Water. Holy crap that sheyat is mad scary, just can't stand it, which is why I never could finish Ecco The Dolphin series when smaller, that and the aliens in it are freaking creepy looking man.

Not having enough air to swim through mad long water filled tunnels.

I also have a constant (rational?) fear of bethesda games crashing. Everytime I open a door or quicktravel, I tense a little and think "should I have just saved?"

I could cite a million examples from the Thief series but the worst is without a doubt The Cradle from Thief: Deadly Shadows. It isn't often a game freaks me out so much it's unlikely I'll physically be able to continue playing.

Anywhere indoors in Fallout 3 gave me the creeps.. I hated going inside.

The original half life gave me bad experiences with underwater sections.

Poison Headcrabs and Fast zombies in HL2.. I fucking hate them.. Ravenholm gave me nightmares.

Facehuggers, those little buggers are evil incarnate.

Small, fast, kill in an instant and come from out of nowhere (also next to impossible to aim at), also, they make that noise...the one that is basically an international signal for 'you, my friend, are fucked...or you will be in a second anyway'.

Also, ants in Fallout 3.

Reason? I just really hate ants.

I've mostly been alarmed by things in games or startled. Not always a genuine fear, just more like the game saying "surprise! you didnt expect this to pop up!"

Being scared is more like playing the first level with the flood in Halo:CE. Mostly because I never knew if the flood were dead, and they hardly made any noise- so when I would be calmly looking around for the exit out, Id hear something and just think it wasnt from the game, then turn and see a flood right next to me.. The flood were never that scary again. But any enemy that moves fairly fast and doesnt make noise.

That and just Silent Hill and Eternal Darkness. I keep thinking that I'm going to get killed or at least attacked.... and that doesnt always happen. In fact it usually doenst happen

When you enter a room and the door locks behind you trapping you inside with the boss/waves of enemies about to attack.

Running out of meds/helth packs/ammo.

In FPS games when the lights go out and you cant see but know something is there...I either stand still/crouch in a corner and just hope it wont attack or get out my best weapon and just fire like an idiot into the empty room whilst running and jumping like im demented.

In RE4, there's one enemy who breathes in a very weird way:
It sounds like some sort of strangled, extremely airy kind of giggling.

Hearing that sound, and knowing one of those things is somewhere close by, scares the living shit out of me.

I don't have any "general" gaming fears, though.

And ofcourse any alien I can't see in any X-Com game.
You can hear them growling around and slaughtering civilians (Terror missions, anyone?) but you only see them when it's too late.
*pewpewpew* from some shadow I can't see and half my team is wiped out without me even knowing who's shooting..
For me it's that horrible jarring sound that happens when they try and mind-control your soldiers, especially when they're unseen, and you just know it's going to be the guy with the Heavy Plasma ideally placed to shoot your ranking unit in the back...

Christ I hate Ethereals...

And Chrysalids *shudder*
Ethereals wern`t that bad if you made sure you trained up you squad in the mental facility thing. As for Chrysalids i think anyone who`se ever played the game still has nightmares about those bastards ,if you were lucky there was only one which could be dealt with with a bit of effort(and makeing sure your men are ready to drop grenades at a seconds notice , if more than one turned up then you ran and left the town to the greys , you might be humanity`s best hope but FUCK.THAT.SHIT.

That said it paid off in the long run when you were the one doing the psi spamming also disarming opponents and using them as target practice for rookies is one of the most satisfying things ever

Dark places where light sources are poxy. For example in Silent Hill 1 you start the game with a match for light, it's poxy and I did not even see the enemies clawing at my goolies till I was dead, then you get a flashlight later on but it doesent help much.

In Fear, when there were long corridors or doors. Not because I was scared but because I knew something was going to be done to try and scare me, it rarely worked.

Giant insects, although silly, can freak me out.

Fallout 3, hearing ants walking around, their giant legs skittering about.
It's a little unnerving for me.
First time I ever saw those Giant ant queen things, I was with my girlfriend and I saw it and was all, "HOLY MOTHER *%&#$@."
