This is just a question out of curiosity, the avoidance of a flame war would be preferred. Basically, I was given a new mac for my birthday as a surprise, I didn't ask for it, but I must say that I am pleasantly surprised with how well it runs. I've been windows most of my life so it will take some getting use to, but I'm pretty pleased with it personally. So escapist how many of you use macs?

Oh god man, what are you doing? Don't you know that saying you find Mac pleasing will get you castrated here?

I have never used on but I have a friend who uses one. Although he constantly praises it for other things gaming seems to be it's weak point.
He has trouble playing with us as many games are not available on Mac so being an avid gamer, I would probably hate using one, I could be wrong of course.

I just tried to get my sister's to play a .avi file... It refused...

Possibly the 432nd reason I have personally found to not use one.

I have a Mac, and it works well for me

Pretty much because this:

However, unlike SmashLovesTitanQuest, I can't fix it myself.

I have an iPad which I love. I prefer it to my PC at the moment because it does everything I need it to do (college-wise) and it's easier to carry around.

I've always preferred Macs but when I needed to get a laptop I couldn't afford one.

Yeah, I'm on my family's Mac now. It's always worked fine for me, and even though I used to love Windows as a kid, I've started to prefer my less crash prone Mac. As far as I'm aware, they aren't very good for games, but aside from trying out the occasional flash game or something small like that, I don't use computers for gaming, so it's hardly an issue for me.

I don't like them, but it's just a personal preference, and if, like the OP, I got one as a gift, I wouldn't complain, or look it in the mouth or whatever it is you don't do to gift horses :p

Theres a gay joke in there somewhere, but im afraid to make it.

Anyway, I hate using Macs. I always like to think that using a Mac is like using a toaster; you press a button, and either shit works, or it doesnt. When using Windows you press a button, shit never works, but you can at least fix it yourself. And Linux just confuses the hell out of me.

I think I have just gotten so used to Windows over the years, anything else seems crappy to me.
Sir I admire your spirit, plus your comment is fantastic. Tried my hand once at linux, but the less said the better. Also I thought I might add for whatever good it will do, that I am a Journalism student and I have found it to be great with regards to making movies, recordings and editing photos.

The only thing I have against macs is the extortionate price for the hardware you get, coupled with how locked down everything is and I like tinkering with most of the technology I own.

Other than that they're alright, better than Linux for gaming currently at least which I hope catches up and by that I mean gets a native Steam client along with Source.

I've been using this 17 inch Macbook Pro as my main computer since 2009 and it has hardly given me any problems. Ironically, that is also when I joined the Escapist. I love my Macbook Pro. It's also a horrible hybrid, as I have Windows 7 on Bootcamp for when I want to play games that don't run natively on the OSX side. I'm not one to join the whole "Windows vs Mac" war, as I feel it's rather stupid.

Whether it's a Mac or a PC, you'll still have access to your silly cat videos all the same.

I've never used one, though Apple's pricing is the only real that I haven't got one and as of now my primary use for a computer is gaming so going mac is not really worthwhile.

I do run Linux though, which I love. *hugs Linux*

I'm also using a mac, but it's currently running windows 7. Don't tell my PC activist friends, but I actually really don't mind Mac OSX as an operating system either...

I picked up my Mac several years ago as I like to do a fair amount of editing in my spare time - there is no better system for multimedia work.

I use a PC at work, and find myself yelling at it more than is likely healthy. I go home every night more reaffirmed about my mac purchase, and my likelihood with replacing it with another Mac when I need to.

That being said - I do miss PC gaming to some extent.

I use a Mac at home. so far i am very happy with how it works, i recently put in a new HDD and increased the memory and it runs better even after i put the new OS. I'm planning on buying a mac mini in the future. I'm not too big into PC games so the hardware limits of my current mac (a 2007 regular macbook) doesn't bother me at all.

Pretty much this.

I like my Mac laptop a lot, but god forbid you mention to people you actually like your Mac. I did use Windows before college since I was a kid, so I've had that experience also.

I've been finding a few good games that have recently started supporting Mac, so I wouldn't say I've come across problems with games for it. Otherwise, my Xbox serves as my majority purpose of gaming.

Yeah that's cause quicktime is complete balls. You can download Miro or some other freeware to do that easily enough though.

OT: I use both pretty much equally, I've got a mac laptop for day to day use, and a windows desktop for gaming. Both OS are good in their own way depending on what you need - though that's only since Windows 7. As an aside, it does make me sad that neither have a decent native music player...
