Does anyone still give a crap about Lord Of The Rings?

Why would they be excited? Did anyone not know that this was being made? I know it's being made a couple of kilometers away from my front door, (meaning of course I'd know,) but the news about this has been pretty widespread.

i still care...

And yeah i was pretty sure everyone knew about the new movies. Isn't Martin Freeman supposed to be staring? I am really excited about this so are most of the people i know. I know this movie was in development hell for some time so maybe that counts for its slight obscureness.

Wow, I came in expecting to either counter some very poor anti-Lotr arguments or report a troll post...

But seriously? Not trying to be insulting, but basically everyone knows about this. Hell, it has even gotten some reporting on this site.

I already knew about this movie, but I am perfectly happy to be reminded. Especially since I was expecting to find a troll thread.

Good literature never stops being good. Good films never stop being good. Hell yes I still give a crap, and I'm definitely looking forward to The Hobbit film adaptation. I actually kind of enjoyed reading The Hobbit more, even if LotR is the more mature and intricate work.

And yes, old news is old, but hey, I can't blame the OP for posting it: it looks pretty awesome.

This is hardly news. Though anybody interested in fantasy literature still very much cares about LOTR and all of Tolkien's work because all fantasy that has been released since then has been inspired/influenced by it. It also connects us to our literary heritage by way of Tolkien's influence from Old English and Middle English poems.

If they manage to pull of the Silmarillion I'll be impressed.

Also, I'm wondering how Frodo ends up making an apperance... He wasn't even born yet when Bilbo went to Lonely Mountain. Bilbo was the same age as Frodo when he left Hobbiton (30) and a Long Expected Party was celebrating Bilbo's 111th birthday. Legolas and Sauruman don't make appearances either but they're listed in the credits too.

This isn't exactly news... But yes it does actually excite me because The Hobbit is my favourite of the books.

Old news is old. But yeah, I still 'care' about LotR. It's one of the pinnacles of fantasy to me, right alongside Dungeons and Dragons and The elder Scrolls. I don't think anything will ever change that.

Maybe it's like Princess Bride, and someone's reading There and Back Again or something.

The only news I gained from the link was the seemingly ever expanding number of cameo roles they've added to the story. Heck HALF the cast aren't in the original story!! Given the difficulties experienced in finding a director and then finding the cast in the first place I was heartened to hear Peter Jackson finally took the helm, but the cast list feels more like an homage to the first three movies than a story in it's own right. I just have concerns this is going to be a tribute movie instead of the prequel it always was.

It's been widely publicised on this very site. And Mr. Fry's twitter.

But yeah, we all knew.
