Never used V-Sync, unless the game I'm wanting to play is known to be unwatchable or unplayable without it. I'm not so obsessed with graphics to think that a little jaggies ruin the whole experience.

So long as it's watchable and I can clock in about 40 to 60+ FPS, I'm golden. V-Sync or no V-Sync.

I've never used Vsync as it always lags my computer to hell and gone.

I use V-Sync in Single player games, but not for multiplayer games because it generates input lag. And having input lag in multiplayer games is just really bad.

The only game I've ever needed V-sync for was Thief: Deadly Shadows, and that was because there was a bug with lockpicking where if V-sync wasn't on Garret would just stand dumbly in front of the lock and then wander off.

Supposedly it helps screen tearing (which I am HYPER sensitive to) but it never seems to do anything for me. Enabling vsync in Morrowind, for instance, does nothing. Oddly enough, playing the game windowed solves the tearing 0.o

At best I always see absolutely no difference with V-sync on, and at worst it makes my mouse input lag a little (which can be REALLY frustrating), so I never have it turned on.

I use VSync occasionally, but only really when I want it to stick to 60fps because 60fps is a perfect number for some games (stepmania)

With my dual GPU card configuration I need V-Sync sometimes.
Although I read somewhere that it seriously reduces performance, the dual GPU is providing enough processing capacity to leave it on. I do try to fine-tune my Control Panel though, only sometimes I forget that V-Sync and 32xAAA from working perfectly on an old game doesn't run well with an new one.

I HATE screen tearing. I almost have to use it.
A lot of people don't see screen tearing for whatever reason...but it never evades my eyes...

V SYNCH DOES NOT CAUSE SCREEN TEARING! Not having a monitor capable of displaying high refresh rates usually more than 59- 69Hz causes screen tearing. V-Synch simply tells the game that you cannot pre-render or buffer more than 60 Frames.

Buy a real gaming monitor, one that costs more than 80 dollars or what you got on craiglist and you will be fine.

I am a developer and I have to explain this to other similar devs without hardware backgrounds...as to why their game is tearing.
Shit, there are only about three "real gaming LCDs" worth buying (the ones with zero input lag), you can't get them in 1200 or 1440 pixel monitors, and they are only available with TN screens. There are plenty of reasons not to buy a 120hz monitor if you use your computer for something other than gaming. Even then you will get tearing if you exceed 120FPS which is easily possible with older games and console ports. No-one wants CRTs anymore, I certainly couldn't fit one on my desk. For normal people v-synch can be a god-send.

Yes I use V-synch, but only after I experience screen tearing for myself. Deus Ex: Human Revolutions tore like the dickens until I turned it on.

Most of the time, yes. However, that's only because so many games need it to prevent screen tearing.

And I *hate* screen tearing.

I sometimes use V-Sync, however most of the time it makes the game lag like crazy (especially if im recording in Fraps) so I usually turn it off. I never experience serious tearing and when I do it doesnt really bother me.

Most of the time it acts like a frame limiter for the high level games. Example is Portal 2. Could easily achieve 110 fps but with V-Sync it limits to 60, which im ok with.

Always have it on.

If your PC is fast enough to draw faster than your monitor can, then you will tear, and Vsync fixes that. You would never get to see those frames anyway(except has half or quator drawn images, ie "tearing") so you lose nothing except a massive framerate number to prop your e-peen up with.

If you're not drawing faster than you monitor can, then Vsync does nothing, so you have no reason not to have it turned on.

Depends on the game. Most of the time V-sync causes mouse delays when aiming (esp. in valve games) so if it's just a single player game I turn on vsync if it's multiplayer I turn it off.
