No, I personally don't acknowledge the term 'hate speech', for to me, any kind of offense would be considered hateful, or disdainful to say the least; and, also in my opinion, it shouldn't be considered 'illegal', and you shouldn't be sued for offending someone. That's not to say that I endorse it, it's just that I think people ought to man-up a bit, and that there shouldn't be laws that prevent anyone from using any kind of speech. We just have to accept the fact that there will always be assholes, no matter what we do. And no law, unfortunately, is ever going to prevent racist, anti-homo douchebag from being a racist, anti-homo douchebag.

Well, if you say it to a male you are technically saying that you believe that they enjoy putting other men's naughty bits in their mouth.

However, hate speech is kind of an iffy term, you can't really be prosecuted for saying it, but you can be banned from let's say military funerals or some particularly delicate events for saying it.

Also, if you use that term as a general beatdown, and then give someone a real beatdown, and that someone turns out to actually be gay, you will very likely have a hate crime tagged on to whatever charges are pressed against you.

However, if you're not planning to commit assault, don't worry about it.

I don't think it's just offensive for homosexual men. It's not exactly the same but telling people to suck your cock is an insult no matter the gender.

Whaa, hate speech?

I'm sorry, I didn't hear you. I was too busy smoking a fag.

Proper response: No, because you could say it to a woman too in a negative way.

7 words you can't say on television.

Not hate speech. 40 years ago, obscenities. Now, I don't think I've gone a day since I was in 5th grade where I haven't used one of them at least once.

I get what you mean by the cadence just seeming right, I'm the same way for ************ (which is really a disgusting concept now that I'm forced to stop and think about it). I'd say the same thing for cocksucker I say for ************: know who you are saying it to and in front of.

I agree with Carlin's view on this word. 2:45 onwards.

Its funny how words can get twisted.

I think the argument could be made that it is hate speech in the same way that the word "fag" or "gay" is thrown around casually. It's used typically as a swear, to put down someone.

The reason that this is unacceptable is the same reason that calling something "gay" or someone a "fag" without really thinking about homosexuality is also unacceptable.

These words have meanings besides their use as swear words, they signify a homosexual man (or homosexuality in general, as is with the case for "gay").

But the users of the phrases protest! They say they're not really meaning to say anything about homosexuality, when they say it, they just mean "stupid, lame, dumb, undesirable", not "homosexual". The problem with this defense, is that actively using a word which has a regular meaning as a swear promotes an idea of equality of the actual meaning with the swear.

What I mean is, everytime you say "That's gay", you're promoting an understanding of the word "gay" with "stupid, lame, undesirable etc".

So when you call someone a "cocksucker" as an insult, you're basically saying that you consider "those that suck cocks" to be something worthy as an insult.

As a professional cocksucker myself, I take it as a compliment if I'm called it xD
People are all too damn over-sensitiveness around the minority's these days! Very few other than the overly-emotional ever care, it may count as hate-speech to some idiots but really the only time it's going to be offensive is the heterosexual CoD player you're yelling at over the Mic!

I don't consider it that, and in fact there are similar phrases referring to the female genitalia in my language and I don't really think that referring to gay people.

Point is genitalia is very often used as profanity, and not everyone likes sucking on male genitalia :p

I don,t really say how it qualifies as hate speech it might be a slur against homosexuals.
but has it ever been used as such? I,m pretty usre most people use it against some kind of complete douche bag.

saying stuff like "death to the gays/those who oppose my god/etc." is a form of hate speech because it makes people hate/kill other people.
