Does Crysis 2 seem a little bit... unoriginal?

I have to admit, seeing the trailer for the second game led me to what is now one of the favorite games, The original Crysis...
But this friday I downloaded the demo and well... It seems like Modern Warfare 2! it's like it lost all of it's awsome originality, they don't have super speed or super strength, so you are left to just guns as weapons. Now, I am speaking of the Xbox version, I don't have the demo for the PC, but the games can't differ that much. Can they?
Of the 3 times I played the original crysis, I was blown away by how diffirent the game was. But this new one... I can't help but think of Call of Duty! everything seems so restricted to be like a normal shooter. Even in capture the alien drop pod thing, it is just like king of the hill in any other FPS!

PLEASE tell me it won't be like that on PC! I am already angered how they didn't put it in a tropical environment (Dang Crytech trying new things! Couldn't they have atleast put the game in miami? have an urban jungle with an actual jungle like forest thing?) I am going to get an updated PC or laptop in a month or so, and I want to know if people will still be playing the first one, or if everyone will migrate to the second.

But I guess my real question here is will they have all the same game modes as they did on the original?

So escapist, what do you think of the Crysis 2 multiplayer demo?

Crysis 2 looks fantastic. I don't care if its unoriginal, because the game is going to be awesome.

I haven't tried the demo or anything like that, but if what you say is true that really sucks.

Developers must know that us gamers want the next call of duty. When we say that we mean a step up in gameplay, while in first person shooter form.

I am completely dissatisfied with the Demo as well. Yeah, sure the graphics are nigh orgasmic, but the game play, guns and control are way too similar to MW2... That was the BIGGEST waste of 1.8 GB ever...

I enjoyed the demo, I liked the use of the bumpers to switch between active power ups, as well as the graphics etc.

As an original idea however, I don't know, it is sticking to formula somewhat with the whole New York + Aliens + Supersoldiers = good game approach, but since it is using nanotechnology as its supersoldier framing device and I am a student of Nanotech at leeds university I am automatically biased to like it, therefore, yes it is a totally original game and clearly one of the greatest games ever... because nanotechnology

(other favourites include Deus Ex and Halo, see, totally not biased!)

I think that you don't have access to the full powers of the nanosuit in multiplayer. Seems to me it was like that in the first game as well, although I think I only tried the multiplayer for a brief while before going back to the single player mode. Hopefully this is why you're finding the game lacks the spark that the original had, since from what I can tell the suit will still have speed/strength/armor/stealth modes as before they have simply been tweaked a bit.

It probably will be the same... Once I saw the first trailer it looked like MW2 with nano suits, and everything since then has just made me lose interest even more (maybe have even started with the multiplatform announcement). And with jacking the PC price tag up 20%, stabbing us in the back and putting 360 first (another CoD move), I still think what will piss me off most is that they will completely abandon the story of the first one. I will actually be surprise if they continue it on like they should...

Yes its unoriginal. I tried many, many times. I want to like it, but its just fucking Call of Duty with super-jumping.

If I wanted to play Call of Duty, I would play Call of Duty. And I have been playing Call of Duty actually, Crysis 2 is Call of Duty but with prettier graphics and super-jumping.

I'm so pissed at this. They give the multiplayer to Crytek UK, formerly Free Radical, who created Timesplitters, the greatest games ever. You give it to the studio that created Timesplitters and tell them to make a Call of Duty game? What a giant fucking waste of talent.

Again, if I wanted call of duty, I'd play call of duty. So unless the PC version plays differently, I doubt I'm buying this game. Maybe when the price reduces, but not at launch. Hopefully the single player still plays like Crysis, and not Call of Duty.

Fucking unbelievable.

Yes they do. Maximum armor also has super strength. Neutral mode == super speed and strength.

It's definitely different, yes, but I can't really blame them. After all, why fix what isn't broken?

The first game's multiplayer was pretty original, but it wasn't very good, IMPO. You ended up spending way too much time hunting down a car to drive across the map to step out and get shot by a cloaked camper.

While it made for a more "realistic" experience, it definitely was slow. Now the multiplayer is much more tactical.

As for the game alone, it's not bad. While it's not going to revolutionize anything, it does bring a few nice things to the table. Auto-climbing ledges, the dog tag pickups, all of that. Really, they're altering a system that works, which is all right.

Frankly, I won't buy it for the multiplayer any more than I did the original. Time will tell for the rest of the game.

People need to learn to stop saying this.

OT: Yeah, I admit I was a little dissapointed. I personally am a console person mysef, and I was a little dissapointed to see that a game downgraded itself that much. It seems like the combat got simpler, which for an FPS is never good.

I don't see it as so much of a waste, though I went through a hour of deleting stuff to get it. Though I do play it more than anything else. NOW I NEED SPACE TO GET THE DEAD SPACE 2 DEMO!

well that's a rip off of super speed. You were like a car in the first one with super speed on, now your like a guy from halo.

(I love your profile picture, by the way) THEY GAVE IT TO THE PEOPLE WHO MADE TIMESPLITTERS? NOW I AM EVEN MORE PISSED! I was never the hugest fan of time splitters, but for its time, it was amazing. The AI were actually somewhat smart in skirmish mode. ANGRY FAEC!!!

To me it felt like Call of Duty meets Halo. It was MW2 controls with Reach armor abilities, but all at once. A waste of time, that pushed back the download of the bulletstorm demo.

Super Speed, Gone
Super Strength, Mostly gone, except sometimes you will do a high jump.
Weapon custumization, you create custum classes in the menu. (call of duty)
Call of duty type online.
and I have a real problem with the weapons, either they are super inacurate, or too acurate, except for single fire with the scar. I pWn with that.

I'm a fan of the way they handle the 'energy' thing. Where its one resource split between 3 or 4 uses (sprint, inviz, mammle vision, armor). Its a cool idea, but beyond that it is very much sy-fy call of duty.
