Does it really make you "less of a gamer?"

Try taking the BrainHex test and getting your associate to take it as well.

It came back like this for me:

Mastermind: 20
Seeker: 15
Conqueror: 14
Daredevil: 10
Survivor: 8
Socialiser: 0
Achiever: -6

So, basically, the very idea of 100 percenting a game makes me break out in a rash. I quite often stop playing a game that I'm half way though then forget about it forever or come back to it years later. This doesn't bother me.

truly in my opinion it depends on the game I have al achevments for 1 of my 360 games
I mean I consider my self a gamer Ive had many game systems befor my 360 and in 9 months of having it I have over 4000 gamerscore so because of me not being a completest iI'm not a gamer the is B.S.

I think your friend is right. Its like playing with yourself and then stopping short of that sweet release.

Just kidding. I wanted to be the only one taking the other side. Did you really think people would agree with your friend? Come on.

I say your friend is an idiot. Dropping games doesn't make you less of a gamer. Neither does not getting all trophies.

If you finish EVERY game you play you have OCD.
I do that with my games. I have to finish the fu*ckers. I wouldnt buy a book and not read the last chapter...

As for the whole topic thing, if you wanna see yourself as a gamer then you are a gamer.

No, that's just being obsesive and kind of stupid to finish a game you don't want to play because you "have" to finish it.

Your friend needs to calm down a bit. He's taking this a bit too seriously. (In other words, I disagree with him)

He's probably exagerating somewhat, but I gotta say, for every one game I've beaten I've dropped 10 cuz I got bored. If I'm not a gamer then I am a monkey's uncle.

I'd tell him something along the lines of: "You play games to satisfy your completionist urges; the game is inconsequential. The games themselves are secondary to you - you are not a gamer.
Dammit. I was gonna say that :(

Ironically, I think the OP's friend would be used to that sensation ;)

Im a gamer, but I dont have nearly enough time on my hands to beat every game I get or get 100% completion, which is quite a few, because, like a normal person, I have a job and a little girl to take care of.

I play games to have fun, and maybe now and then get a challenge.

Your mate needs to chill and stop thinking it makes him better then everyone else.

Alrighty Escapists, I have an idea to present to you. My friend and I got into a huge debate today and to be honest, it didn't really go anywhere...but this is what it was about.

He had said that if you start a game and don't finish it (unless it was just a bad game, then it's justifiable), then you cannot call yourself a gamer. So, if you get to a boss and it's like a brick wall so you give up on the game, you are not a gamer.
Or a masochist. If it's beyond your skill level, and with Youtube filled to the brim with end game cinematics etc all that remains is the "achievement" of grinding yourself doing something that probably isn't fun.

Chancie said:
If you simply develop a waning interest, you are not a gamer.
Surely this would be to do with the game being poor?

Chancie said:
If you are distracted by another game and play it without finishing the one you already started, you are not a gamer. You get the idea.
Or the game you've been playing has less of a draw than a new one.

E.g. When I get Brutal Legend I will stop playing Grid and Skate 2. Plus it's because you want variety. Colouring in with the same colur got boring for me when I was younger.

Chancie said:
He also said that if you do not strive for 100% completion and all trophies (if it's PS3) in a game, you are not a gamer.
I myself have always done this, but I think this more to do with Austistic traits than "being a gamer" [/quote]

Chancie said:
By his standard, I might as well play Cooking Mama or something. I've "dropped" games before for one reason or another, though I have gone back and finished some of them later. As far as completion goes, I rarely do it. It's nice for people that have a bunch of time, I guess but I get no extra satisfaction out of a game knowing I have all the items, weapons, outfits, or what-have-you. The only time I really do that is if I finished a game much quicker than I had expected and am not ready to be "done" with it yet, meaning I really like it.

(But the games like Final Fantasy and stuff? Those take forever to get full completion! I don't have the patience for all that.)
Final Fantasy etcs are my favourite for that very reason. More than a flash in the pan.

Chancie said:
Just curious. What do you all say?
If you do not finish all of the games you own/start, are you "less of a gamer?"
If you do not get 100% completion in a game, are you "less of a gamer?"
To be honest I think it is a bit of a prickish thing to say anyway.

As long as you enjoy the time spent with the game than it really doesn't matter. Labels on things are pointless anyway.

Someone who plays football at weekends, does that make them a footballer?

i dont think it makes u less of a gamer if you get stuck on apart of a game and give in am sure most people have done that at least once i know i have lol, and hundred percent on all trophies is abit harsh because i think to complete a game all you have to do is go through the story and some trouphies are a little hard to do on your first run of the game or for example find all the hidden flags isnt going to effect the story or the gameplay its just somthing extra to do. so short answear is no, aslong as you enjoy gaming then i class u as a gamer =]

Oh, it's easy: your friend has undiagnosed Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Or he's just a pretentious git for claiming near sole ownership of a very loosely defined title in an effort to maintain some sort of sense of superiority.
