Ever heard of ignorance is bliss? It sounds like you are trying to grapple with concept of reality and only through the limited instruments that we have. The only people who have ever "pieced things together" are those who ignore large parts of the world. To have happiness you must blind yourself to misery, yours and others. Take giving food to the starving in Africa. They are feed and alive but you must blind yourself to the fact that some of them have been refugee camps for decades. For generations.
