Okay I'm gonna be rude here and tell you what I see in your post.

"Do we really want Bioware giving us more ways to play our game and more content? No one asked for it and I don't think we should have this extra stuff. I'm not using it so it's stupid"
It's quality over quantity my friend.

Unless ME3 really steps up it's combat, and I mean really steps it up, why would I play a mediocre third person mulitplayer shooter when I could be playing Gears 3 or Uncharted 3?
I don't know, I'm pretty sure ME2 had more depth in story telling, and gameplay length adventure than those games together. Okay yes Uncharted is really really good and amazingly well done (no really I do love that game, it's 3D Flashback so I'm in love). But it wasn't meant to be replayed like ME2 was, and ME3 is again stepping it up already. I'm sure at this point the multiplayer was handled by a different dev team in general so the game overall will still be fantastic.

You could call me out on assuming a lot, but I myself have no interest in the multiplayer, but Uncharted did the muliplayer thing and I don't think 2 was any worse off for it. 2 was damned amazing.

I really don't get why including multiplayer hits campaign with an automatic sucking curse. People say that the resources used there could have been used for the campaign, and frankly I can't see the logic in this, are you telling me that ME1 and ME2 had been worked down to the last dollar and second? If Bioware had added so much as one more thing to those games it would've taken away from someone else? Considering that half a billion dollars that they dropped for the old republic and the four month delay for this game, I think they have enough time and money to fit in multiplayer, AND the jaw dropping campaign that we've been waiting for. I think that the multiplayer is an awesome idea...but then again I think that ME2 improved on ME1 in every way shape and form, so what do I know?

Oh agree with you in terms of the single player experience, what I mean is that ME3 doesn't need multiplayer because it does the single player so well, and lets be honest, the combat in the Mass Effect series isn't the best around, but what it lacks there it makes up for with a deep story and rich universe.

Strip the story and character interaction away from Mass Effect and you've got a pretty crappy third person shooter.

Would you believe there were people actually asking for multiplayer? There was a group that kept asking BioWare if they could work in the ability to have one person as Shepard, and 2 other people operate the squadmates, as opposed to having them AI only. It's a fun idea in theory, but you could see where such a thing could go considerably wrong in the manner that Mass Effect does single player. The format in which they have it is probably the next best thing to having the original request. Yes, I'm sure there was some pressure to include multiplayer for the purpose of marketing and expansion of target demographics, but I'm also guessing that the idea was there anyway.

I, for one, am excited for this. The abilities in the ME games are pretty awesome, but you never get to see them used with any sort of fluidity, since you're the one having to command each one individually. It'll be interesting to see the human element placed into the game, for once.

I guess? Maybe I have a tolerance for that sort of thing but I enjoyed the combat, I mean yes boxes piled around derp fire fight coming! But it was fine, I thought Uncharted was good too without multiplayer but it seems they wanted to go for it and it worked out. I think it'd work here too, but again, I don't think it'll matter because I don't have any interest in it nor do I know others who'd play it with me.

But more content is nice, the single player will still be great I can't imagine them screwing that up, this is just some extra goodness I think.

Didn't Casey Hudson himself actually point out that he planned to put in MP from ME1 days, but couldn't figure out a good place to put it until now? Can't remember where I read that now, but I am 98% sure he said that.

OT: Does ME3 need MP? No, not really. But, it sounds an awful lot like Horde from Gears of War, so could be ok.

Isn't obvious? Mass Effect is becoming a full blow 3rd person shooter so it can compete with other shooters.

Need it? 'Course not. I'd bet my house that it isn't going to sell any more copies than it originally would have just because it now has a mulitplayer mode. But just because it doesn't need multiplayer doesn't mean I don't 100% appreciate the fact that it's there.

I just hope Bioware does something reasonably original with the MP. If it's just a bunch of shooting & such then I probably won't bother much with it. That said, if there's something unique or at least some interesting modes, missions/objectives or some cool stuff to play with - as I genuinely expect there to be, it's Bioware afterall - it could be a real blast.

It's called trying something new. Who knows, maybe they will greatly improve the experience with multiplayer. Probably not, but why not try?

This guy knows what he's talking about, I'm sick and tired of being able to accurately call for my teammates to to assist me with the touch of a button.

I want voice recognition that may or may not work.

Not needed, but if it can be attempted without harming the single player? Why not.
This. It is somewhat convincing my friends to get the game, as they can co-op with me for a few short missions. 'cause of that, I'll probably end up playing it.

Because how else would they be able to slap an online pass on the game?

Don't you know, a game NEEDS multiplayer to sell well these days. And it needs a pass to protect profits from those damn gamers buying used. Bastards... being smart consumers and all trying to save money...

Why exactly are they including multiplayer no-one asked for?
Probably for the same reason that Dead space 2 got useless and awful multiplayer. EA demanded it.

Like so:
EA: Yo, Bioware! Buddy! How's the multiplayer coming along?
Bio: ...We...aren't putting in multiplayer.
EA: Oh, Bioware...Single player alone can't sell a game! So make multiplayer!
Bio: ...Mass effect doesn't NEED multiplayer...People are going to buy it just to get the conclusion of our big epic story and-
EA: ...Ok, how about this, you include multiplayer or we lay off the whole team for people who do what they're told?
Bio: But...If we make multiplayer it'll divert resources and time away form the single play-
EA: Oh who even PLAYS single player anymore? NOBODY!!!

That's probably what happened.
Gotta wonder how they feel now since Skyrim sold like gangbusters.

And what I REALLY want is to have to buy a $150 accessory to use it. I mean, why would I want to use my normal 360 headset when it's shown to work perfectly well at this sort of thing with EndWar?

From what I've seen, the ME3 multiplayer just looks like Horde mode from the Gears of War series. You and several friends play as a team of various human and alien characters fighting off waves of increasingly difficult enemies. That really seems to be the only ways they could go with it. If Bioware tried a deathmatch style mode where you upload your Commander Sheapard to do battle with others, it would be too broken once someone found the class that could destroy all the others without challenge. On second thought, if they designed a Team Fortress style of deathmatch of CTF, it might work.
