Ok, so I was watching Extra Credit's video on Racism in Call of Jaurez: The Cartel, and it got me feeling quite bad about myself. Why? Because I enjoyed the game. I mean, I know the whole thing about Mexicans kidnapping American women is bullshit, but does me actually having fun playing it make me a bad person?

No.

I haven't played the game, I'm guessing its the game play you enjoy, not the Mexicans kidnapping American women.

...It's a video. It's not a way for you to analyze your inner self.

Thinking that enjoying a game makes you racist is kinda stupid.

It's possible to like something and ignore the bad parts, and it doesn't make you a bad person.
Unless you are enjoying it because you can feed your power fantasy of putting them dirty Mexican back on their place, and not for the gameplay or characters.

But is it bad enough that you don't want to support the studio making the game?

No, you don't qualify. Go play ZOG's Nightmare if you want to be a "racist".

Why did you enjoy it? I think that's kind of what it came down to.

I have trouble imagining people liking it, period, so I'm a bit extra curious. Even the people I know who buy up every shooter of the month seem to think this was just a bad game. Racism and propaganda never occurred to them, far as I can tell, they just...Hated it.

As others have said, no.

It's not racist to like the game, it's racist to be racist. The video was more pointing out the dangers of you (or anyone) becoming desensitised to racism.

So no, it makes you no more racist than playing whatever modern combat/war game you play which focuses on killing a specific ethnicity.

If you enjoy killing people for their "race" then yeah, you probably are a bad person need to think about fixing that, but it's not racist to enjoy the game.

It does, however, mean that you have a bad taste in games. Ninjas. Everywhere.

I enjoyed it because it's quite a nice little multiplayer experience. Also, Dual Wielding is so cool.

EDIT: And I played the original ones and really liked them, and The Cartel is basically the same.

I'm sorry, but that makes you a racist. But it's OK. Racist people have done great things for this country. Why, a racist person invented the car!

Of course, I'm being silly. No, no it does not watch. And take anything EC says with a bucket of salt.

No, just dumb.

Okay, not to be an arse, but I really don't like it, I mean I really really didn't like it.
but, yeah, it's your opinion, and you are entitled to it in every way.

No, Extracredits has been pretty preachy(and not the good kind either) lately. Everything either makes you a racist or a propaganda slave.

Yes.
YOU RACIST ****.
But seriously, no, enjoy whatever games you want, so long as you're not actually being openly racist just ignore what anyone else says. Especially Extra Credits, they seem to be rather preachy.

I can't believe you are even asking this question to be honest.

While I really enjoy Extra Credits (and I'm not saying they were WRONG about CoJ: Cartel either), but they seem really touchy about stuff like that. I'm not.

Also this:

It all really boils down to what you enjoyed about it, I personally thought the game mechanics and controls were kind of blocky and badly done but to each their own. I can't real say anything against liking something other people hated because I legitimately enjoyed Catwoman, Daredevil, and both of the Dead Space games.

If you believe and treat the story line as gospel, then not so much bad as misinformed and that can be fixed because you already know the truth to some degree.
If you know the reality yet choose to believe this romanticised ideal and shout it to the high heavens, yes, yes it does.
If you're playing the game specifically for the latter, then yes you are a bad person. If you're playing the game because it kills time, then not particularly. It just means you're incredibly easy to please and should probably invest in a ball-in-a-cup. Or something brightly coloured.

No, but exterminating the population of captured cities afterwards is a good reason to prevent you from entering the next elections.
