Yes.

Music plays a vital part in both movies, TV and video games.

You can, however, make a point of not including any music in your film/TVshow/game and get by too. (See: No Country For Old Men)
That's because Cormack McCarthy's style is minimalist.

Games, depending on the music, can have very different feelings. For example, footage of Hitler played with heroic music has a very different feel to it than footage of Hitler with sad music.

good music is important, only as it is helping to advance or improve the game. music can become an integral part of the story, serve as a transition, and do a lot of things so that the player isn't just sitting there bored as all hell waiting for the next part of the game. but when music starts to become cumbersome and hinders the game, no matter how great the song or whatever is, it becomes bad

In both games there is very little music, most of the half life series doesn't have music except for in a few moments where it is used to give a huge adrenaline rush through the juxtapost. The best example of this is the final antlion round in episode 2.
Ehhh, I dunno. Having played HL2 extensively, I've found that the music plays at least once a chapter, for extended periods and not always to pump the player. Ravenholm for example, or when you arrive at Black Mesa East. Inside the Citadel is another example, during the pod ride. Yeah, a lot of the music is used to get the adrenalin flowing, as your rightly pointed out with the massive Antlion battle in the mines, but there's a lot of quiet stuff that plays as well, some of it easy to miss.

Unless there's some other point you're making that I'm missing completely, in which case I apologise. :3

I can't honestly say I would enjoy some games, or any at all, as much as I have without their soundtrack. It really sets the mood. They are part of the experience, and if you don't particularly want to listen to music, you can usually turn it off independent of sound effects anyway.

ITT: Excuse to post favourite OSTs

You sir, just won the internet. How could I forget Deus Ex's awesome soundtrack? UNATCO HQ's music is stuck with me forever as one of the most memorable pieces of game music ever. Oh god, now I've got to go play it again.

Absolutely. World of Goo had great gameplay and a charming and funny story, but the music is what sticks it in my mind as one of my favorite games.
