Hey! Heres an idea! Lets find an innocent creature thats just minding its own business, beat it sh*tless so we can capture it and force it to fight other innocent creatures!

Yea. Great morals. (Sorry if I come across as a dick, but everyone does it at some point. :D)

You're partially right because I'm lacking experience in this stuff. Nontheless I think that my topic is worthy thinking about (at least if you're a fan). I'm from Germany and one of the main reasons for me mingling with people from all over the world is Pokemon.

3. Pokemon possibly makes us aware that animals are special and that we should treat them better. At least I've never seen any Trainers eating Pokemon, so they're probably vegetarians.
yes because forcing them to beat the shit out of each other for our own personal gain is such a humane thing to do....
Hahha, plus I dont think the pokemon are animals, they're pokemon, theres actual animals around too

I don't think I've ever seen a real animal in Pokemon. Ever.

Pokemon a.k.a cockfighting for kids. Just kidding, though you can see the resemblence, no? In all honesty I guess Pokemon may make some kids think more about the environment.

Absolutely.

Why wouldn't it?
It just follows that killing virtual people makes us worse human beings, right?
I hate everyone and everything.
Why are people coming into what should be a light hearted thread and getting all pissy?

OT, I never thought of it like that.
However, you could also say we're getting 'animals' to fight each other for experience to beat other animals.

Pokemon only makes Children think more about Animals (Though doesn't stop them dropping them etc damn small people suck)

Most people I know make jokes on how it's about enslaving creatures to do your bidding.

Fact is, Pokemon like battling. What else could be the reason for them jumping out of grass patches and attacking innocent travellers all the time. Have you observed that a lot of cities in the Pokemon universe aren't connected by motorways or railways? Either the people in the Pokemon games don't want to disturb the natural habitats for environmentalist reasons or the Pokes hunt down all the road construction teams because they like battling.

So I guess it's okay to pit pokes against each other.

So it makes us better people by:
1. Forcing you to capture these creatures and have them trapped in a ball until you summon them.
2. Forcing you to make these creatures fight until one is unable to do so--for profit. These Pokemon battle using fire, ice, poison, and all those elements, how painful do you think that might be?
3. You trade these creatures to random people as if they didn't care at all (I know it's a game).
4. Gambling...you gamble in that game.

If Pokemon were real I think this world would be a lot worse than it is. At least in shooters, you're fighting for a good cause. What are these poor Pokemon fighting for besides your entertainment?

I don't think I've ever seen a real animal in Pokemon. Ever.
The numbers of different animal species in our world number in the millions if not billions, I don't think 400+ pokemon can fill all the ecological niches needed to keep the planet going. And a lot of pokemon are referenced as being like RL animals. They say pikachu is an electric mouse, they could only say that by knowing what a normal mouse was in the first place.Just to answer, yes, there's been some real world animals in the show: a worm, There's a cat in one chapter, several fish... plus they ate fried turkey in the 2nd movie. . I remember in one episode they were eating hamburgers for lunch, and in another episode Brock was making beef stew. So in conclusion, consider your self beaten

I think Pokemon can be taken as a paradigm of a better world, berift of the clutter of life and simple in nature. But thats just me perhaps.

1. Other than many games which force you to headshot s***loads of enemies Pokemon makes you care for the creatures you catch and develop a friendship with them.
I never developed a friendship... I regularly swapped Pokemon if a better one came along.

2. You can meet a lot of people by pitting your team against their Pokes thus giving you a reason to communicate with other persons all around the world (no matter what religion or skin color)
You can do that on any game with multiplayer abilities.

I'm not quite sure how, considering the pretense of Pokemon is use your Pokemon to beat up other Pokemon and catch them unwillingly, or use your Pokemon to fight someone else's, were if you win you take money off them, and if you don't they take money from you. If people did it with animals they would be aloud to keep them, but it's OK if its Pokemon.

Well it's true that you're making things fight for you, but the games certainly do have some things going for it morality-wise: they're anti-stealing (you can't take others' Pokes) and anti-world domination. :)
