Gah, it seems like every IP published under them tends to under-sell badly, and nearly every publisher and friend of mine does not know them well other than being a former console manufacturer who also used to struggle making a good Sonic game.
Heard of them all, I knew Sega are involved somehow with all of them and I have played a fair few.shrekfan246 said:Vanquish, Condemned, Yakuza, House of the Dead, MadWorld, Otogi, Phantasy Star, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Shinobi, Super Monkey Ball, Total War, Valkyria Chronicles, Vectorman.
How many of those have you heard of, and how many did you know Sega published? And that's only a fraction of the games they've published over the years (though those are the mostly 'high quality' titles that actually did get some marketing).
Yeah, Sega really sucks at marketing.
I've heard of or played most of them, but given how much they actually sell I'm something of a rarity. Yeah, Sega is really bad at backing their titles because they make a lot more awesome stuff than people realize.shrekfan246 said:Vanquish, Condemned, Yakuza, House of the Dead, MadWorld, Otogi, Phantasy Star, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Shinobi, Super Monkey Ball, Total War, Valkyria Chronicles, Vectorman.

Which is why I'm really really fearful of how well Phantasy Star Online 2 will do in the US.Vivi22 said:I've heard of or played most of them, but given how much they actually sell I'm something of a rarity. On the bright side the whole thing about them not including female marines in multi might be a good substitute for advertising... If there's anything the net has taught me its that the best publicity is negative publicity.Nouw said:They better not fuck up with Aliens:Colonial Marine's marketing.
What I mean is that Sega can sell Sonic games almost regardless of how bad the games are (The latest games are actually good now, so that isn't a good assumption, especially from someone who hasn't played them yet.) because the brand is still that strong and its fanbase (however crazy and completely fractured they are) is enormous.Zaik said:I'm not sure that Sonic is what you want to reference when you're looking for games that Sega sells well.
They don't seem to be very good at making them.
That makes no sense. Giving marketing to stuff that is guaranteed to sell while leaving new and obscure IP to sink-or-swim with no backing is a self-fulfilling prophecy that ensures that these obscure titles fail, regardless of how good the games actually are.WaterDancer said:I remember there was a news article were Sega said they only focus on marketing guarantied titles. Everything else is sent out without much or any marketing. If anyone can find it, it would be nice. Regardless their marketing has been bad lately.
