Does Sony Hate The PSP?

The PSP has been around for a while now, and it has proven to be the only hand held console to stay in the game with Nintendo. That's quite a feat since Nintendo has dominated that market since the fall of Sega's Game Gear.

However, Sony seems to hate it since it has been giving it less and less attention. Not many good games go to the online catalog very often, no new commercials for any PSP games or for the system itself are on TV. They promised a brilliant campaign for the PSP, but so far there has been 2 commercials starring the little kid from Role Models. E3 was a long time ago. It has also been forever since I saw a commercial for the PSP myself.

There have been some firmware updates, but no significant new features (other than to get rid of the Patapon 2 exploit).

So why exactly did Sony release that great, amazing, godlike system, if they won't back it up like Nintendo does with the DS? Nintendo releases new types of the DS, commercials for it, and games.

Here's the question then if you didn't feel like reading my giant rant there

...(insert thread title)...

I hear great things about the PSP in japan, they have the best online catalog, and they see physical as well as online releases of games like Armored Core.

Meh, I had one for a while, and really other than JRPGs, which I do not like, there were very few games coming out on it that looked any good.

God of war was really the only game that I liked on it, but even that...the thing just has a horrible button layout, I'm sorry. For EVERY GAME I felt like I had to wrestle the controls to do the simplest of actions. I traded mine in a month after buying it.

Talking about E3? The montage was weird but it had The 3rd Birthday footage so that was cool. Showing each game individualy would have been better though.

Why aren't they supporting the psp anymore? Because they don't need to. The psp has been out forever and enough people have bought it. Now sony can start working on the next portable system.

Nintendo still supports their system because it still sells shitloads everywhere. To quote a funny picture: "It prints money!"

Honestly? I think Sony regonises it's been beaten by the DS in the World Outside Japan, and so is gearing down their efforts. Although weither the 3DS delivers the knockout blow or Sony announces a PSP2 in a few years is another question entirely.

There's also the fact that the PSPgo project blew up in their face. I'd imagine it made a substantial loss.

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite was pretty much the only reason i bought a psp. It was definitely worth it.

I'm pretty sure the DS has beat the PSP in Japan. Like almost 100% sure.

It seems last year Sony turned its sights on the PS3 and really turned its life around, and now this year it looks like Sony is doing that to the PSP with a slew of solid games looking to come out.

I still want Darius Burst released on the PSN!! Darius is my all time favorite arcade game and Burst was released in December in Japan and no sign when/if its come to North America

I have noticed this huge price drop in games (to the point where it seems as if some shops are trying to get rid of them) but I think the PSP is doing pretty well despite the reign of Nintendo. I've got some really great games on my PSP so I hope that they continue to manufacture more great titles for it. Though with the release of the PSP-Go I have a feeling that they'll probably stop producing UMDs eventually and focus on selling games and videos from the Playstation Store... Possibly because its much cheaper than manufacturing the disks which are only compatible with PSPs, so there is probably a chance of a larger profit if they do it that way...

In all fairness I only play Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and God of War: Chains of Olympus on my PSP.
I can't really find any other games to play on it.

The main reason I dislike it is because I really don't think that the PSP is a good idea, I think handheld games should be smaller things like the handheld zelda games or pokemon, because playing full blown PS2 games on something no bigger then my hand just makes them unplayable in my opinion, I remember my friend bought Dynasty Warriors for the PSP (a series which I love) and I just couldn't get into it. That was a while ago now, so I don't know what PSP's games library is like now, but if they're nothing more then PS2 games on a smaller screen, then I think the DS will be the dominant handheld for a while.
