only once surprisingly, it seems to happen to quite a few people here

but for a while during the summer i was playing lots of Prince of Persia and Jak 2/3, and for some reason i tried to roll in PoP alot using L1(the Jak controls) and ended up using one of my sand banks.

Also, today a guy at my school said he never could play playstations cos he always got mixed up with the buttons. He then asked how do I remember what each button does in each game?
a Friend aswered with another question: "How do you remember how to walk?"
What he meant was its not remembering buttons, its more like instinct. Well at least theats what I think he meant.
For me I can hardly ever remember controls when I try to tell a friend the controls to a game, I just know when I'm playing the game.

Happens to me a lot lately ^^ though more on functions I don't use nearly as often~
I've been switching between Infamous and Prototype and I can never open the map in one go because on one it's select and on the other it's start XD; it would be interesting if game makers could make some sort of guidelines for these things...

If i get used to playing one particular game, and then try and play another game it can be a bit confusing for me initially. But then I get back in flow with everything.

Only with FPS's. But the trigger is usually R1 nowadays so its cool. I remember playing Oblivion one day, I was trying to reload my bow...

Not really, though one time I was playing Resident Evil 4 after completing Metal Gear Solid 3, and instead of trying to run from the villagers or shoot them, I'd run up and try to stab them or physically attack them like I was trying to perform CQC. Got me killed pretty quickly.

I've only got a PC and I keep the same bindings for all games but I do forget which game does what sometimes, like the Portal Gun will pick stuff up but the Gravity Gun will throw things too. I keep trying to throw stuff with the Portal Gun and it never works. I have to hold down the sneak button to sneak in Morrowind but in Oblivion, I just have to press it. Or was it the other way around?
I think I must have masses of space taken up by screenshots I've taken with F5 thinking it was the quicksave key before I've remembered and changed it.

Switching between FPS controls never fails to get me confused. Usually there's only one or two buttons switched around, but its enough to sabotage the first few minutes of gameplay...

I've gotten into a habit lately of switching between games, and I find myself getting confused by control schemes sometimes.

For example. RB is the run button in Saints Row 2, but in Gears 2 it reloads, and it Borderlands it throws grenades. I can't count how many times I've thrown grenades when I've wanted to run :).

Does this happen to anyone else? Are there any really bad button confusion combos (like RB for grenades or running) that you can think of?
No I don't get confused because I use the same configuration for every game, even if it's an unusual one: for example "numpad 1" for reload, "pagedown" [not the numpad pagedown] for quicksave or "!" for the headlight.

It's the reason I stopped playing kingdom hearts 2.

Any game that maps it's jump button to anything but the lowest button without letting us map it back can in my opinion go fuck itself.
I didn't realize how much I agree with this till I just recently tried to play Devil May Cry and realized that the jump button was triangle. WTF is the jump button doing all the way up there?

I also am trying to limit my game-hopping. I used to have a big problem where I would game hop away from an RPG after about 20 to 30 hours and go back to realize I didn't know what was going on anymore, thus needing to restart the game again :(

Switching from Splinter Cell to Rainbow 6 Vegas 2.

In splinter cell, you tap "Q" to press against the wall. Something you also do in Rainbow 6 (which you do by holding down the rt mouse button).

The "Q" key in R6 Vegas 2 is to throw a grenade...So now all of a sudden, i'm trying to take cover behind a wall, but instead I toss a grenade at my feet...lets say that confusion caused some issues at first.

I have 2 shooters for my psp. 1 has a lock-on system. The other aims using the action buttons. It could definitely confuse.

I was playing "Mario Kart" for the DS and "Red Faction: Guerrilla" at the same time and I had a dream about a kart racer set in the Red Faction universe.

A lot of times when playing Call of Duty I find myself pressing R3 to crouch. Although, I don't play Call of Duty that much.

for PC I always change the mappings to be the same for each game.

for console games, I tend to try to keep things as similar as possible. CoD's 'tactical' (i think is the name of it) control scheme is the one I try to keep amongst games. 'B' to melee is great.

Also, I play with the Y axis inverted.

Switching from Saints Row 2 to GTA 4 was the worst for me- I kept pressing B to open the weapons. And also Fable 2 to Ninja Gaiden 2 was fun- I pressed RT to collect the orbs. ><
