Does the Mass Effect 3 extended cut fix what was wrong?

I have been gone since January due to military service and as such, I am not too sure what is going on in the gaming world. I was looking forward to playing Mass Effect 3 but I have heard some things about how crappy the ending is. My limited research informed me of an extended cut version of the game and I was wondering if it actually made things better.

Also, what noteworthy games came out in the last few months?

Mass Effect 3's extended cut DLC is a definite improvement. However I think you should play the ending for yourself (with the EC) and form your own opinion before looking into the original ending.

It explains what happens after you make your choice a little better. Other than that, it doesn't CHANGE anything.

Geez, just google it or something.

When I googled it it I wasn't given a very good explanation and I didn't want to delve too deep for fear of spoilers.

No not really. It turned it from being one of the worst endings I've ever really experienced in my life to just being Meh.

I can't really talk about it without spoilers, but if you're a fan play it anyway.

EDIT: Play both versions actually. Original first.

For me no, though it does give me a glimmer of hope we can one day revisit the universe Bioware created, that was my biggest grief with the endings apart from 'The Mistake' as I adore the Mass Effect universe and I for one really hope we get to go back in another game.

I doubt this is a very popular opinion but I feel it was one of the best universes we had seen in gaming and i'm not ready to say goodbye to it.

There are still some retarded things about the ending, but for the most part, yeah, the EC does fix it. You'll probably enjoy it more if you go in with no expectations.

The extended cut turns the turd of an ending into a polished turd.

It is still a piece of shit either way.

No. It only fixes a small amount of really serious errors while leaving a huge gaps in logic still there. It still ruins the game.

Reputation and Honor that you lost in front of all the masses will never EVER heal or recover ever again.

couldn't agree more, it doesn't make it passable, just turns the shit into a polished piece of shit with some frosting on top, which happens to be shit flavored. (EA's specialty, mind you)

still, i'd say it's worth experiencing, especially if you loved the story and details thus far, you can painfully notice how much shit they threw out the window in logic and plot line.

Oh god, not ME3, the flames shall begin soon.

That said it turned it from a new low of ending to a Deus Ex HR level of ending. Basically shit to meh.

Nope. You're still better off quitting the game right after running towards the big laser, or letting the Marauder kill you if that's what you're into. Just make up something yourself from there. I promise you will have put more thought into it than the writers (or writer, depending on your point-of-view) did.

Don't skip out on the game, though. It's absolutely fantastic until you get to that point. Not that there aren't other faults. Some choices don't make nearly as big a deal as they should have...
like the Collector base decision. What the fuck happened there? Remember how many threads there were about that one decision? The game made it seem like it would be a huge deal. It certainly feels like it should have been one. And everyone who played Mass Effect 2 thought it would make a big difference. But all it really does is change some scenery in one room of a level.

Dropped. The. Ball.

And Shepard speaks a lot more on his/her own, which is cringe-inducing to me even after multiple playthroughs. But it's also the best game of the series in other ways (Ambient storytelling, combat, level design, leveling and weapon selection. Maybe the music too. Mass Effect's soundtrack fit the game perfectly, but Mass Effect 3 has some real stunners. It's more orchestral than the first game (though not as much as the second), but has some more interesting twists).

To a degree. It took the ending from "Holy shit this is literally the worst ending I have seen out of all the films and shows I've seen, books I've read, and games I've played" to "painfully mediocre ending to a series that deserved an amazing one".

That said, I did get the feeling that they were listening to the fans. The ending now actually makes a decent amount of sense. Your choices throughout the series still don't mean a damn thing, but its no longer an abomination to good storytelling.

Simply put, ME3 didn't have the development time it needed and suffered as a result. Enjoy the game, just don't get your hopes too high towards the end. It's no longer rage inducing, just not what it should have been, the game is still worth playing to see the end of your Shephard's journey.

It fixes the smaller problems and plotholes, yes. But some of the biggest reasons for critique remain.

I thought it actually made the ending worse, for two reasons. It didn't change the ending, and therefore just made the original terrible ending longer, which in turn made it harder to sit through. Secondly, the refusal ending they added is downright childish and insulting. *Doctor Who Spoiler* You remember that episode with starship UK (11th doctor) where you were told about the truth behind how it was able to fly without an engine, you were supposedly given a choice between allowing it to continue, or protesting, but anyone who protested was actually fed to a giant star whale. That's pretty much what the refusal ending like feels to me. They say: choose to accept our bullshit ending or everyone you know and love dies.
