The moment I see DS I read it as 'dual screen', so yeah you're right it's not a good one.

Though incredibly annoying to spell out out loud or in your head, normally the longer the acronym the better, as it's harder to confuse with another more easier to search a meaning for. I found that whilst recently watching TWGOK (short for the World Only God Knows). Shorter ones that are more obvious are fine, for example I can't think of any other meaning behind HL2.

The way I was always taught at school was to put the acronym meaning in brackets the first time you use it (or vice versa), then you can use it as many times as you like. Simple.

The only one that annoys me is LOL but that's because I knew some people that would put it after every sentence in a text. It doesn't bother me as much as it used to as long as it's not used too often

Damn near every one of my hated acronyms is a sports league.

I also hate it when one of the letters in an acronym stands for its own acronym.

A fair few do annoy me to be honest but this is only when you have no idea what they are talking about. Sometimes people forget to put it into context and so you end up just having to ask what they were on about anyway, if just the first time it was mentioned they put it as the full name before using the acronym I would be fine and dandy.

For an example of what I mean:

"I love AC, it's an amazing game"
"Oh, Assassins Creed?"
"No, Armoured Core!"
Exactly this. Try to remember your audience and that not everyone will automatically know what you are talking about, and post accordingly. This is not just a problem when using acronyms, a lot of people just don't know how to give a thread a proper unambiguous title either.

And for the record, AC is Armored Core for me as well. :D

No, IDK WTF this is AA. Acronyms are EZ to UIL. I DDR to HADDS when GGYUY NOFA so people can just STFU PPO FUSA ADDUVC GSOOLKSGHTYCXJS!!

OT: Depends. Common acronyms are fine (so long as they aren't spoken aloud; that kinda grinds my gears) because most people will know what's being said. But if it's an obscure acronym or an abbreviation for a TV show/game/movie that isn't directly relevant to the topic, chances are I won't know what's being said.

Needless to say, that's usually annoying.

YOLO is getting to be a real fucking peeve of mine.
And yeah, excessive acronymization of game titles bothers me a bit. Like Gears of War/God of War both are GoW apparently, or Assassin's Creed/Armoured Core being AC etc. etc.
