Basically, give an idea for a game and see if someone can point you to a game very similar to that idea. My idea already sort of exists but I wanted to know if there was a PC or MMO version of it. Basically a game where you get to be an animal and live like an animal. In essence, is there a MMO Tokyo Jungle?

I've played a Warcraft 3 custom map which name I don't remember[footnote]Played it once but never managed to remember the name and searching for it afterwards yielded nothing :([/footnote] where you played something vaguely like that. You start off as a beetle (or something small) and as you progress you evolve into other stuff. It was quite cool - when you evolve you get to choose one of two traits to go towards, like would you have four or two legs, wings or no wings, etc. Each trait gives you some ability or boost and also changes you into something else - you can evolve up to a dragon or a human or a whole manner of other creatures. The gameplay outside of evolving is roaming a jungle and hunting stuff to eat, also, hunt other players.

Other than that, there is the other Warcraft 3 custom, which was called Troll Tribes. There is a bunch called that with various qualifiers, but I believe Ice Troll Tribes was the original. At any rate, while it's not animals[footnote]unless you count trolls as ones. Fantasy racism, ahoy![/footnote] it's quite primitive in premise - you basically have a bunch of cavemen and you have to survive hunting, gathering resources and defending yourself. Each player chooses a speciality, for example, a hunter troll can throw nets which really helps with, well, hunting. I never did manage to play a lot of it, though it was quite a cool concept.

Can't think of anything else right now.

Is there a game where you platform right to left? Like a regular 80's platformer, but in the other direction?

Well, there's The Endless Forrest. Something Awful covered it here.

I really don't think it's what you're looking for, but it was worth a laugh to read about.

Pretty much every other level in Ninja Gaiden.

I recall there being a wolf related game out there. Where you play as a normal wolf in some wildlife refuge. You had to hunt, and mark territory and other stuff. It was a multiplayer game, and I think it was designed as an educational tool? To explain how real wolves live? But yeah, technically yes it does exist.

Many (many) years from now the game WiLD will finally be released...into...the, uh...wild.
Ugh, that was terrible. Even more terrible is how new games are announced with seemingly impossible claims such as:

...So we decided that in WiLD every creature should be playable, even the giant and dangerous ones!
I guess we'll see. We'll be lucky if this game is even completed and released. It's a PS4 exclusive [http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2014/08/12/introducing-wild-ps4-exclusive-rayman-creator-michel-ancel/] unfortunately. And the quip from Michel Ancel seems to indicate that there will be some sort of online aspect to it.

Until then perhaps you could quell your animal side by playing the free PC version of Enviro-Bear 2010 [http://www.enviro-bear.com/].

I seem to remember this mid 90s resource trading game that was underwater, and you were creature with your own submarine and you gathered and traded resources between various enclaves, and I remember you could buy depth charges? Does this ring any bells with people?

Ooh you sneaky sneak, asking about unknown games outside of the mega 'find this game' thread.

Doesn't matter. Are you thinking of Sub Culture?

It's not always right to left, but some levels in various Double Dragon games would sometimes do that. I remember the SNES Double Dragon doing that specifically.

The first part of the paragraph sounds a lot like natural selection.

It's not, unless it's been ported to WC3 (even then, no). Or unless the map was called that, which, in all fairness, it might. Though googling doesn't turn up much[footnote]Well, lots of stuff about NS2, few mentions of WoW, some of WarCraft in the context of NS2, i.e., being a strategy, and something called Natural Selection Open RPG which is a StarCraft 2 custom map which has a similar concept but I don't believe it to be a successor of what I have in mind.[/footnote]

It's called Shelter. They're also making a sequel where you play as a Lynx.

Man, you really have a hard on for that game, don't you? I should probably watch that video you linked in my crazy gameplay thread. I'll get to watching the Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance one...eventually.

1) Is there a game in which the character(s) you play as has(have) weapons that are a part of their body, organically as in born with them as in not attached or modified into them? I'm not sure how vaguely or specifically to define this. I don't want to allow say, claws, but a character like Kimimaru from Naruto (OH DEAR GOD! I HAD TO RESORT TO NARUTO OF ALL THINGS AS AN EXAMPLE) might be OK considering he can grow his bones out of his body and they are unique in that they are already sort of shaped like weapons versus normal bones. Games connected to Wolverine, Kimimaro, or other such characters from previous existing properties that were adapted into video games don't count.

2) Anybody know that ability that lets you phase through things? I guess, from what I've seen of the games, you can kind of do this in Infamous: Second Son through your powers or DMC: Devil May Cry through your blue, smoky angel dodge. What I'm wondering though is if there is a game completely based around just that ability regardless of other mechanics? An example of this might be a game that only lets you move through the mission/level/world by your ability to phase through/past another solid object across from you in any direction (it doesn't matter whether you're next to it or it's 50 feet away as long as you can see it) rather than through walking or running. Something like that.

3) If Hack 'n' Slash didn't already exist I think it would have been a great idea for people to question why there isn't a game that lets you manipulate parameters of surrounding enemies, objects, and environment and almost, sort of mess with the code itself. I recently added it to my wishlist. Nice idea. Don't know well they execute it though.

There's this platformer called Spoiler Alert. It's essentially a classic platformer in complete reverse: http://store.steampowered.com/app/283230/

With regards to that first one, I think Dark Sector lets you spawn throwing stars from your body, though I may be wrong. Never played the game myself. Though of course, there's always Prototype 1 &2, letting you shapeshift your arms into giant swords and clubs and crushing tanks.

As for the phasing through stuff as the main mechanic, Murdered: Soul Suspect is the only thing that comes to mind. Play as a recently deceased detective who has to use ghost-powers to solve his own murder.

Possibly one of the Aquanox games?

I'll have to check those out when I'm more financially secure and have a better gaming system.

I've heard of that game; I'll have to look it up now. I was under the impression it mainly revolved around the detective element. I mean, ghosting comes into play, but it's not the main focus. Nice try, I know it's the only thing you could think of.

My example makes it the main focus because it forces it to be your only method of transportation and offense. In the case of my example, you can't walk, run, fly, swim, any of that. You can only phase jump/transport and it only works when there's a solid thing in the direction you're looking at that you can phase right through. You can control how much farther than the solid thing you're phasing through you can go (say you want to go 50 feet beyond it), but that's pretty much it. It's like going through a maze without the walls, I guess. How do you avoid detection when you don't want to be seen or fighting when you can't take much more of a beating when your maneuverability is simultaneously limited and unlimited? Sounds intriuging to me especially since phasing in and out looks so cool whether someone sees you and wonders what the heck is going on or someone just misses you and sees a cloud of magicky smoke. That's just one example though. I'm sure there are other ways to make it the main mechanic.

Re-quoting you to say that it looks like a game centered around phasing as the main mechanic actually DOES exist. Sigh. Kind of disappointed my idea already exists honestly. It doesn't exist like my example though it is quite similar in a lot of ways. The main differences are you phase around "phase bubbles" versus phasing in general and the player can move in traditional ways (jumping, running) instead of solely relying on phasing. Either way, phasing does seem to be the main mechanic. Heck, Phase is the literal title of the game. Skip to 1:00:40 if the video doesn't skip automatically. The showcase is only, roughly, 1 minute and 30 seconds.

I suppose I should question why a AAA or even big indie title doesn't exist then since this is just a school project.
