Why only have one save? I got 3 saves each for all my 3 characters just in case, highly recommend it
First world problems much? It's just a game, it's replaceable. Your sister made a mistake, it was an accident. It's alright to be upset but it's not exactly the end of the world. I would apologize to her. Also, imo it's your fault for not backing up your save files. Save files can go corrupt or get damaged. Always best to have redundancy in something you invested almost 200 hours in.Oly J said:so basically I've been playing Skyrim for the vast majority of my free time since I got it, 180+ hours, about 2 hours ago I let my little sister, who really liked Oblivion, start a file on it, after she got bored I attempted to reload my save only to discover she had overwritten it, (she's 16 and plays games a lot I kind of expect her to not make those kind of mistakes) I'll say again there were 180+ hours on that save so to put it lightly I was quite annoyed, and in my annoyance I said some very hurtful things, and reminded her of the last time I let her use something of mine (action replay DS cartridge, leant it to her, an hour later it was broken) and basically threw her out of my room demanding she not touch anything since I didn't want anything bursting into flames,
I guess my question is was my reaction reasonable? I calmed down pretty soon after I noticed that all but about 6 hours of it had been uploaded to online storage (I knew PS+ would pay off)
EDIT ok I admit it was pretty stupid of me to have only one manually saved file. to be honest that's all I've ever had for games, I grew up having to share games and storage space with siblings, and I guess the habit stuck, the thought to have more apart from a back-up never really occurred
No it makes you a human, we all do dumb things, as long as you felt remorse and made up you are doing good. I mean you're sharing your stuff with your sister, that alone makes you a pretty nice person.Oly J said:so basically I've been playing Skyrim for the vast majority of my free time since I got it, 180+ hours, about 2 hours ago I let my little sister, who really liked Oblivion, start a file on it, after she got bored I attempted to reload my save only to discover she had overwritten it, (she's 16 and plays games a lot I kind of expect her to not make those kind of mistakes) I'll say again there were 180+ hours on that save so to put it lightly I was quite annoyed, and in my annoyance I said some very hurtful things, and reminded her of the last time I let her use something of mine (action replay DS cartridge, leant it to her, an hour later it was broken) and basically threw her out of my room demanding she not touch anything since I didn't want anything bursting into flames,

Well since it seems he only has 1 save that probably means he only uses autosave, bethesda games (at least as far as i know) use 1 autosave for all characters. So if that is the reason he lost his save it is his fault not his sister.Hero in a half shell said:I currently have 150+ saves of Skyrim, and I've only clocked 50 hours in it. Do you not have any autosaves whatsoever?
actually I had one save file not counting the autosaves, of which there were 3, all of them were overwritten, as for only having one manual save file, old habits I guess, in the 90s when I was a kid I had to share consoles games and memory card space (when the Playstation came along) with 2 and later 3 other siblings, so basically we all agreed that we'd each have a save file, and well back then there wasn't any need to have more than one, so I guess I just never lost the "this is my save fille" mentalityD Moness said:Well since it seems he only has 1 save that probably means he only uses autosave, bethesda games (at least as far as i know) use 1 autosave for all characters. Thanks for clearing that up. Still honestly feel you overreacted a bit(with the saying mean stuff bit) but then i grew up with games without a save system (or a big ass password system). Have saves lost due to dying memory cards , saving at the wrong place, crashing systems , family deleting savefiles or a game corrupting savefiles(only time i really got angry was when fallout 3 corrupted the autosave. That was more because the previous normal save was before the endbattle i broken steel). Also except for a lot of portable games most games have many many save slots try to keep that in mind and use itOly J said:actually I had one save file not counting the autosaves, of which there were 3, all of them were overwritten, as for only having one manual save file, old habits I guess, in the 90s when I was a kid I had to share consoles games and memory card space (when the Playstation came along) with 2 and later 3 other siblings, so basically we all agreed that we'd each have a save file, and well back then there wasn't any need to have more than one, so I guess I just never lost the "this is my save fille" mentality
I'm confused. What part of this was supposed to make you sound like an asshole? All I'm getting is that a sibling who is really old enough to know better, either being lazy or just making a mistake that cost you 180+ hours. If this happened to me I think there would be much worse then "some very hurtful things". If anything I think you have done about as good as you could in this situation. But look on the bright side at least now you can start again with a different raceOly J said:snip.
Find her diary, set it on fire, and then go "Teehee, whoopsie, I made a boo-boo! Forgive me?" and see exactly how magnanimous she is.Oly J said:I guess my question is was my reaction reasonable? Edit 1: I cant say I blame You for that. Hell, even I do it. It isnt exactly Your first consideration: What if My Relative accidentally overwrites the File!Oly J said:EDIT ok I admit it was pretty stupid of me to have only one manually saved file. to be honest that's all I've ever had for games, I grew up having to share games and storage space with siblings, and I guess the habit stuck, the thought to have more apart from a back-up never really occurred
EDIT 2: ok fair enough it was pretty assholish, it was a spur of the moment over-reaction by the way me and my sister are fine now
