Does using the dodge roll in SSBB make you cheap? and other questionably cheap techniques.

No, those moves are just called 'moves'. 'Moves' require skill and timing, something that good players have. If you have the rare talent to use 'moves', then congratulations. If your friends cannot understand how you amazingly pull off these 'moves', then they are obviously incapable of expressing intrigue to learn how to use 'moves', and can only express dumbfounded insipidity, thus their moans, groans, and juvenile swears. But the Dodge is not the only 'move'; there are plenty of others, such as the Directional Attack, the Smash, and the Jump, among others, although that last one is almost impossible to pull off. And those aren't even the most complex of 'moves'; they say nothing of the complexity of the Run move, or the mind-tearing frustration of the Turn Around move.

The only thing I think is cheap is using the same move more than twice in a row

Other than that, its all fair, go nuts.

Oh to hell with it, SSBB is one of those games no one should take seriously and everyone does, I admit that it is fun, but my friend who is really good quickly showed me most of the crazy zany fun of the game with items is lost if you take it seriously, if you don't you should set the game to high frequency hammer drops and watch everything die.

The way I see it, if it's programmed into the game, there isn't anything wrong with using it.
