On-topic: I had the chance to swim with dolphins in Florida, but I couldn't afford it (this was on holiday a couple of years ago). That's about the closest I've been to them, and stroking them and feeding them at Sea World. That was pretty awesome. But they're intelligent animals, so who's to say they aren't secretly plotting our demise a la The Simpsons?

Actually, dolphins are one of the very few altruistic species who will help a distressed animal just because they can. Mythbusters found that sharks are actually AFRAID of dolphins. They're the vigilantes of the sea.
