wow, that was a long post
Some of the anti-smoking ads in Australia are good, they combine shock value by showing the organs of (presumably dead) smokers and providing information at the same time as opposed to this ad (which I agree, is mostly just shock, horror!). But Australia has some of the best ads ever.

I've seen a lot of them and none have ever had an effect on me. The fact that I have never done, nor even want to do, drugs could probably be the cause. The only drugs I ever take are asprin for migraines and albuterol for asthma.

I hope they come from dead people, hate to think people are walking around with Aortas, lungs or brain matter and still living... ok to be fair I would think it cool, we would then have zombies!

The car accident ads are quite good too, using real life situations that have led to real accidents before and showing you the aftermath of not just the victim but of how it screws up your own head to have taken a life. Probably a better lesson then you can kill yourself seeing most people are willing to accept that on some level but killing another person... that messes you up and can get you to stop and think far deeper then just 'you can die' ads.

Still as far as ads go the smoking ones are not too bad. They clearly show you 'damage caused' and make sure you know through the whole of the ad that it is smoking that causes that damage. They tell you where the part came from, what the age of the person was and how bad the damage was. Facts and shock, proving you can do both! *Gasp* who would of thought it.

I do have a minor problem with them, but it isn't in the facts being presented but the inability for me to know if it was smoking alone that caused the damage. By this I mean I don't doubt it causes the damage they are saying it does. I am meaning in the case by case examples they use I wonder if they took the worse examples they could find for increased shock value.

For example did that Aorta come from a person healthy other then the smoking or did poor diet on top of smoking play a part?

Still pretty accurate given the dietary habits of this nation though, probably more so. Nor does it distract from main message being shown: Smoking is bad for your body and the scientific evidence is there to prove it. This is some of the many wonders you can expect in middle to life life period, all brought to you thanks to your long term smoking habits.

Personally I don't smoke tobacco and rarely cannabis these days. The largest reason not to smoke tobacco down here is simple: The government takes too much money off you as it is! I kid you not, you pay the government more in taxes then the price of cigarettes. Too bloody expensive a habit, for one you gain no real benefit from and a sack full of health problems. I understand people do it to feed an addiction, I chose to side step that whole mess because I have enough addictions as it is.

What with porn, and computer games, and sex and....
