Is prison rape as prevalent as popular culture makes it out to be? No doubt it occurs and the authorities don't do nearly enough to prevent it, but is it really as wide-spread in nations like America, Australia or the UK? I know it's pretty damn prevalent in South American Jails, due to the fact that there is virtually no order in those jails - the police let the inmates do whatever they want, at all times.
But does it really go on all the time in Western jails? I have met a person who spent time in a minimum security jail, and he said it didn't. Maybe in a Maximum Security jail, but I'm sure popular culture is taking liberties with reality.
That said, rape is one of the worst things you can do to a person, and is in no way funny at all. Seriously, it is, short of grievous bodily harm. It's not a funny thing and being in a situation like that is one of the worst situations you can be in.
Heads up: Don't go to jail! It's not nice. I've never been to jail, and I have no intention of ever going to a prison.
