I have a few issues with this video, lets run through them quickly:

1) He seems to imply that if you play a console you wont be a PC gamer. I own a 360 and still game on my PC because different systems work better for different things. RTSs etc are just better on a PC whilst I prefer consoles for more precise platforming type games. The "one or the other" type statement bothers me somewhat.

2) He passes off all dissenters as "PC elitists" which is just ridiculous and a spurious generalisation.

3) He claims to call "a spade a spade" but this game really is a bit of a rip off. I won't argue that it is probably a sound business investment but it is still blatantly a rip off.

4) More obscure, he repeats points far too often and tries to defend his standpoint at every turn. I got sick of hearing him apologise to "regular" PC gamers and explain that he was only bashing the "elitists" first time. Second time it was just painful.

5) He plays the tough guy "bring on the hate then elitists" but has taken down the ability to rate the video. Not fully sure why that bothers me but it does.

I should probably add that I don't play Minecraft, the idea never really appealed to me. I'm not really creative enough for that kind of game and generally lack the time for something so lacking in structure. I can see how it could be fun but it's just not for me.
Totally agree with this. I hadn't heard about this before this post, but I was actually quite offended by his video. From the little research I did, it just seems as though fortresscraft is minecraft programmed for consoles with better graphics. As much as I think it's lame that they're so blatantly ripping off notch, I'm not getting too worked up about it.
The way he brands people as elitists is vague at best, and offensive to the rest of pc gamers. He also speaks about gaming as if the two sects exsist in a vacuum. I game on consoles AND pc. So what?
He seems to not take into account the fact that minecraft just came out of beta either... Bleh.

Sorry I just thought I had to add my 2 cents to this mildly offensive fanboy video.

Personally I don't mind at all if the consoles get a minecraft game or not.

I agree with the op about how not everything is a 'rip off' of something else.

HOWEVER when you use half of the original game's name in the title of yours as well?

Yes. FortressCraft is a clone. A money grabbing opportunistic clone.

Is this a problem? Not really. I'm a bit disappointed that Notch didn't get there first (with all the work he has put into Minecraft, with the updates, etc.), but whatever. IMHO, Minecraft seems to me to be a game better suited to a PC than a console, but maybe that's just me.

That said, the OP's video has just about as much trash-talk as the people he's complaining about. Yes, this is the internet, and it's OK to have problems with what other people think, but you won't sway anyone when you're that discriminatory.

GOD DAMMIT! Now I cant look at this page without falling on the floor and ROFL for like 20 minutes...
Well then, according to crappy research and made-up statistics, I prolonged your life by 1 hour and 40 minutes. :)
Kickass, now I just need to think of what ill spend my additional time on.

*Starts pondering*
You can procrastinate :D
Or you can do something useful you've already been procrastinating, and justify it to yourself by saying that God I gave you the time to do it.
Whoops, almost gave myself away there.

GENIUS!!!

If Dragon Age is not a rip-off of Dungeons and Dragons, if Medal of Honor is not a rip-off of Call of Duty, if Duke Nukem is not a rip-off of Wolfenstein, then FortressCraft is not a rip-off of Minecraft.
This was just lol.

Dragon Age has its own systems and world and characters and enemies that have nothing to do with D&D so is not a rip-off. Medal of Honor came out before Call of Duty so it is not a rip-off. Duke Nukem has different world, characters, weapons and enemies from Wolfenstein so it is not a rip-off. FortressCraft is the same as Minecraft except for a few extra bits in it?

Are there really people out there with Xbox 360s that don't own a computer that can run Minecraft?

Also, if you are playing Minecraft, is having HD graphics really a selling point?

Unless there's going to be a huge modding community for FortressCraft, I think it will be the loser out of this battle.

Would absolutely love for it to come to the PS3 since my PC can't run Minecraft.

I always feel these sorts of arguments depend heavily on assuming the reasoning behind your opponent.
"You're wrong because I KNOW why you're upset, and it's flawed logic."

"But ... I didn't ever say why I was upset."

PC Elitism, Already having spent more for Minecraft, these reasons really put motives behind peoples words. ... Yeah, I bought Minecraft. I don't care in the least that a console version came out of a heavily similar game. Seems a bit too rip off for my taste, but there are very few COMPLETELY original ideas left in the world. Not a bad thing. I own a 360 which I play ore than my PC, and given the choice I'd probably still buy Minecraft. Just a preference, not elitism or a hurting wallet. No matter how playable Minecraft is, I think its HILARIOUS it's already been copy-pasted with a new name and a coat of paint while still in Beta. ^_^

OP, your avatar...its the first time I've seen anything from that show since the first time I saw that show. Majorly underrated.

OT: Minecraft is inspired by Infiniminer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlSIbbAu088
Like the guy said, used the concept and improved on it.

Not sure how much FortressCraft improves on the minecraft concept...looks basically the same with +1 prettyness, but that sort of look doesn't really fit the style of the game. If you want to make a better looking minecraft, I say make it so the blocks are much smaller, and mining while aiming at one makes all of the surrounding blocks break down in the same way, falling in collectable piles that can then be fashioned into working materials. If its on an xbox, it can handle something like that (to a certain extent)...since minecraft itself can run on almost anything.

FortressCraft is the same as Minecraft except for a few extra bits in it?
And for the longest time, Minecraft was just Infiniminer with a few extra bits. This is fact. Hell, even Infiniminer wasn't the first block-building sandbox game out there. There are tons more that predate it. Eventually, Minecraft evolved into something different while still holding true to its roots.

FortressCraft is no different, yet the Notch Defense Force is pissing blood and crapping fire over it. After the initial release, FC will begin its evolutionary process into a hybridized Minecraft/Dwarf Fortress/Dungeon Keeper form.

Both Minecraft and FortressCraft have derivitive larval stages, but for some reason only Minecraft is worthy enough to pupate. Why is that, NDF?

HOWEVER when you use half of the original game's name in the title of yours as well?
It gives me a good chuckle every time someone brings up the name. People, you aren't making any kind of dramatic point. Every time you bring it up, it just goes to show how much footing the NDF is losing that they have to nitpick the title.

I don't think I could ever enjoy FC as much as Minecraft. So I don't really mind, as a minecraft fan.

Nothing can reproduce the feeling of constant threat of creepers and the feeling of acomplishment when you build something awesome :p

Yeah, the guy in the video sounds like a clown. He's exactly what he's accusing others of being. "I'm not a PC gamer. I will never be a PC gamer." So who is the elitist?

How is that possible? Are you connecting to the internet with an abacus? My nephew got it to run on my parents computer, and that things 8 years old. It's 8 years old, and it was never a powerhouse computer.

Can't we just be satisfied that Fortresscraft will never be Minecraft, and Minecraft will always be Minecraft. Fortresscraft is a cheap ripoff of Minecraft now, but may change to be something better, but for $3 a download, it probably won't.

Minecraft has won a couple of GOTYs while still in Beta, not too shabby.

It doesn't look as good as Minecraft somehow.

It's all in the name. If they had named if something like Caverns of Doom or Construct-o-Digger, or something (those are terrible names BTW) there wouldn't be as much uproar.

Minecraft looks something like Infiniminer, but doesn't really play like Infiniminer. FortressCraft looks exactly like Minecraft, and from the clips plays exactly like Minecraft only with dodgy controls so it looks like a rip off. A lot of people like Minecraft, and they like Notch for making it. People don't like seeing their heroes being ripped off.

Can't we just be satisfied that Minecraft will never have the potential of FortressCraft, and will always just be Minecraft? Fortresscraft is a higher-quality version of Minecraft now, but is very rapidly being developed into something way better -and for only $3 a download, who can resist?

You seem to have the mistaken belief I'm defending Minecraft as something other than the game that it is. I'm well aware that Minecraft is just an improved Infiniminer, I'm just pointing out a silly statement by the OP. Glad I could help out with your little rant about a group of people defending something they like, did you enjoy yourself?

so what NEW thing does it bring to the table? I mean.. if it was actually FORTRESS craft where you have to build a fortress of sorts to deal with assaults, that'd be epic.
