I don't know about you but when people tell me to open a window instead of using my a/c (and yes I do pay my own energy bill so don't even think about it) my first immediate thought is to throw them into a pit of horny koalas on steroids who have just finished watching fox news. People are always asking me why do I turn on the a/c when its not even that hot (80F is when I start turning it on) and I tell them "because I can". I might just be a loose cannon but does anyone else get really pissed when you're sweatin your ass off and you wanna turn the a/c on but people tell you to open a window instead?

I'd consider myself to be a tree hugger, but opening a window to make yourself cooler in summer doesn't make any sense. How does the heat of summer flowing into your house make you cooler?

To be honest with you, I'll open a window every time. Not because I love the environment, but because I'm generally more interested in getting a natural fan (the wind) than just being colder. But that's just me.

At 80F (or ~26 degrees for those of us who live in the 21st century) it is hardly hot enough to necessitate the aircon.. That said, when the outside tempurature is in excess of 45 degrees, and it's like 40 inside then yeah, I'm going to turn the aircon on with around a 0% chance of me opening a window (there's no fucking way I'd open them even if I had no aircon).

Ever since I switched to Firefox, and lately Chrome, I never open windows. Just new tabs.

Also, I live in Texas.

Bugs are outside, and can crawl through windows. I found a scorpion on my CEILING not too long ago. Ergo, I don't care if running my AC actually causes panda extinction, I'm using that to cool down. Frak windows.

If you live in a house with computers running it will get hot and I bet there are other factors made by house appliances that increases heat.

Considering the temperature range I find comfortable is 10C-15C I would definitely want A/C.

Not hot enough?! Tropical weather freaks D:<

Do they not employ the use of screens where you live?

I turn my AC on when I feel like it. Why? Because I pay for it so I can turn it on in the dead of winter if I wanted to. Everyone that tells me just to open a window can just be mad and open their own windows.

Yea, they get mad a lot.....

I don't have a/c.

I use windows and when it's really hot and sunny out some kind of exterior shades I wouldn't know the name of in English.

Also I live in the Netherlands, so it's almost never exceptionally hot.

(In a car a/c is a necessity though)

Edit: Accidentally quoted myself there >_>

Well, I usually find an open window offers better results.

Unless, of course, it's fucking Texas, and it's hot inside because outside it's 100 degrees. Then opening windows is the last fucking thing you want to do.

I live in Iowa, so when it gets to be mid-90s with mid-90s humidity, you better believe my air is on and running hard. Hell, when it is 80 with mid-70s humidity I have the air running. I HATE humidity.

It gets up to 113-115F here in the summer and can reach up to a muggy 80-85F in the evening. The only time I open the windows is in the evening, if it's cool (in the 70's), when I'm cleaning up - to air out the house and encourage some natural airflow by turning on the fans. It generally has a fresher smell afterwords.

My A/C is set to work only if it reaches above 75F in the house and stop when the temperature gets back to 75F, and that's where it is staying.
