I hate bugs, and the heat and humidity of the outside air is bad for my breathing. I will use the AC.
(Infact, its on right now)

^ Win.

Well if the temperature in your house can be cooled just by opening a window, then it doesn't make much sense turning on the AC.

But I do hate when people are afraid of ACs.

It reached 110 Farenheit here today.

Fuck that. I'm gonna AC the shit outta my house.
This. All opening a window does in Texas is let more hot air in. Plus bugs and pollen.

I open the window simply because I ain't got no air conditioning. It's the only way for me to somehow cool off.

I might if I had A/C that worked.

I have two fans(usually only one on unless I'm trying to sleep) going and the window open in my room. If I turn the fans off or close the window it gets ridiculously hot and stuffy. Doesn't matter how hot it is outside, if the window isn't open it will be hotter in my room than outside. And god forbid anyone else comes in my room 'cause then I might as well be in an oven. Even at 3-5 AM when I do my workout it is uncomfortably hot to the point when I use my exercise bike I end up sweating buckets and need a jug of water on standby(and a shower).

edit: My car doesn't have A/C worth a damn either.

I guess I should be feeling bad because I wont let the temp get above 65f in my house and it doesnt matter if its only for a few hours in the fall/spring.

I am NOT a fan of sweat.

And as for the window, I am even less of a fan of insects.. So no. Hell, I would be perfectly content to live in a house with no windows if it meant I saved on heating and cooling and there were less ways for insects and spiders to find their way in.

I hate heat with vehement passion. So.. whens winter going to hurry up and get here?

Not opening the window just because it's the "maverick" and "counter-counter-culture" thing to do (or that "you're not the boss of me!" attitude) is just a prick move. When opening a window is going to do no good because it's TOO hot, or you're afraid of mosquitos/wasps/etc flying or crawling inside your house, cool. -_-

I prefer opening a window when it does actually cool things down. Next would be a fan so that it's only directed at me instead of cooling the whole place when where I am in the only place that needs cooling. And last I'd use AC when it's really hot or I'm with a bunch of other people.

To be honest, I don't have AC right now, or a fan, but I'm usually not too bad about heat (plus in I'm France right now, the temperature has been in the 90sF but nothing more so it's not that hot). When it's hot I close the blinds and open the window. It does mean having to turn the light on sometimes though so I guess you can't do that either without using electricity.

But when I'm in California, I'm with my fiancé who gets hot super easily. What actually happens is that he turns on the AC and I wear a sweater and a blanket because he puts the AC at 60 and that's way too cold for me.

In winter I don't like turning on the heat, but I hate having more than 3 layers or so on, so I wear my thin Canadian underwear thing (a polar shirt and long johns) then clothes then a robe, and I turn the heat on the rest of the way for me to feel comfortable.

I prefer fresh air to a/c air, a/c air always feels really dry and if I'm in a car I start to get nauseas. I don't have a/c in my house so if it gets hot I kind of have to deal with it. Usually round here it gets to the point where it's cooler outside than inside.

I have nothing against people that use a/c, but I just personally prefer fresh air.

Speaking as someone who lives in the UK, this whole 'intentionally lowering the temperature in your house' thing sounds like madness.

Same thing when i got a Mac...
OT: i live in Scotland. i havent got that problem. but i would rather have an open window because theres less power wasted, the air flows out as well as in naturally and dont you put a/cs in windows anyway? as Wieke above said, the Europeans arent too big on a/cs.

If its humid as fuck YES I am going to use the AC, or if the air quality is at moderate or higher. I have asthma dammit!! And goth plus summer doesn't mix. I prefer it cold because you can add layers but when you're hot you can only take so much off, as I despise sweating.

As for bugs screens? They laugh at screens. I know spiders, scorpions and stinkbugs do
