Found this today while reading the daily what. Im sure a few of you might have as well but this really struck me.

Click the spoiler after you watch this.

The internet is a more dangerous place than we give it credit for, and this story, which i cant decide on its validity, is a good if creepy example of that. What a tempting prize, my first thoughts were "i totally wanna do that" when i saw the initial offer. Were i unlucky enough to find this first i might have been the one to end up with a knife in me in some welsh field. Creepy as. This probably belongs on the scary thread

Also proof that monsters and huge budgets are not needed for true creepyness. Just good story telling. And a creepy premise.

Well, I must admit it was a damn good story, true or not. Though MUCH more horrifying if it was true.

That was pretty damn creepy and very well put together. The lengths you can go to to make a good story without a massive budget. It's also funny to see a horror based around that text, seeing as I studied it in school a few years ago.

i'm bloody terrified, whether it's true or not.
and if it's not true, i want someone to give the narrator a huge budget and see what he can do

There goes my geocaching plans this weekend!

Has anyone been able to find a link to either Fortress' youtube page or the BBC article? I looked and came up empty. There is a xxxxFortressxxx or something but his videos were recently posted while in the video you can see that the originals were back in 2005. Also the length of the youtube videos are different.

Just had a thought! Watch the video in HD and you can read the urls.
And this is the link to his fist vid!!!!!

Damn I'm jaded, my first thought at the conclusion was 'dude brought a shovel, the killer couldn't have buried the victim?'

It's fake.

http://www.youtube.com/user/fortress

This user account, one of the same name as the user who died, was made on Feb 12th 2006, whereas the one on the video was supposedly made on Feb 7th 2005.

Fake.

http://www.youtube.com/user/Fortress

Date is 2006. puzzle was in 2005. Just a story, a good one. But fake.

also it's FORTRESS not Fortress. Additionally those videos were in a good quality. Unlike the youtube of 2005 (240p only).

And yes while the puzzle website does exist it looks like it could have been mocked up fairly quickly. and while it is copyrighted for 2005 that's not to hard for people to put in.

Nice try, and for a minute you had me. But sorry too much cliche

Thats interesting if its true. If its not... eh. still its a good story, and I like the reference back to the Canterbury tales.

...

just as a personal opinoin, im going to say its not real. The kid looking for the treasure oversells it a bit, and i can imagine there wouldnt be more news items if a teen body just showed up in the middle of a field, dead, a sign of a struggle, no criminal found, and its body unidentifiable.

That was a neat little story, too bad it's a fake though....

Doesn't stop me from telling it to people to scare the shit out of them.

I was semi-convinced. But you can trace IP's and hosting to find A1's website if you need to solve a real murder.
