For me it was the over-dramatic acting on the part of both the narrator and the guy calling himself Fortress. Not to mention the fact that, even though the "story/crime" is unsolved, the narrator seems to know an awful lot about it. Pretty amazing when you consider that he repeatedly says that "no one was watching" the events unfold.Spoon E11 said:Fake.

Date is 2006. puzzle was in 2005. Just a story, a good one. But fake.
also it's FORTRESS not Fortress. Additionally those videos were in a good quality. Unlike the youtube of 2005 (240p only).
And yes while the puzzle website does exist it looks like it could have been mocked up fairly quickly. and while it is copyrighted for 2005 that's not to hard for people to put in.
Nice try, and for a minute you had me. But sorry too much cliche

All the yellow and the kid didn't figure that out after 2 weeks? C'mon.
No, it really doesn't. Especially as while you may be easily impressed, none of what was demonstrated was "amazing" to the point of actually limiting anything. And hosting by proxy, especially for a minor low traffic site, is not difficult in the least. Good luck when your tracking dead ends at a free wi-fi hotspot the guy only ever visited for that specific purpose. All you'd really have is "guy with 9 grand", "reasonably smart, maybe", and a few guidelines on his location at various times, such as having to been in wales at the time of the murder, having to have at some point been at that yellow house, etc... Not for certain that he'd even have to be welsh.Owen Robertson said:I meant they could find out who purchased the hosting and track him down, or if he carefully hid his tracks, then trace the IP's he used to do so. If he hid those too, then you're looking for a Welshman with amazing topographical and electronic security knowledge, who is also a dangerous sociopath with nine fucking grand... kinda narrows shit down doesn't it?Jadak said:I don't believe it's real either, but the point you just made is meaningless. Is the only way to create a website to do so from your own home now?Owen Robertson said:I was semi-convinced. But you can trace IP's and hosting to find A1's website if you need to solve a real murder.
To be as clear as possible, I was inferring that if this murder had actually happened, the forensic and detective techniques and technology of the modern day would be more than enough to catch the culprit(s). It would not be surprising if someone went to these elaborate lengths to kill a random stranger for shits and gigs, but it would be surprising if they were to do it that poorly then get away that cleanly. (The "police report" says signs of a struggle and two sets of footprints. You don't get away with murder after leaving fucking footprints) Assassins aren't that clean. Jason Bourne's not that clean. 47's not that cleanJadak said:No, it really doesn't. All in all, unless the guy was stupid or not anticipating the need to be hidden, there's not much of anything to go on. Hell, even if you want to assume that he had "amazing topographical and electronic security knowledge", unless he's a professor or something in those specific subjects at a near by university, that doesn't narrow down shit either, it would only help if you already at a suspect to compare those traits to.
You're being plenty clear, you're also plenty wrong. Sure, modern forensics are great but you're acting like any evidence automatically equals crime solved, which is ridiculous. To keep the discussion specific, "You don't get away with murder after leaving fucking footprints" is possibly the stupidest thing I've read all day (or at least in the last hour. Footprints give you what? Ideally speaking, given proper experts and attention to the case, you'd have the weight and height of the person perhaps, maybe some other physical traits along those lines, as well as the shoe tread, likely leading to the specific shoes worn.Owen Robertson said:To be as clear as possible, I was inferring that if this murder had actually happened, the forensic and detective techniques and technology of the modern day would be more than enough to catch the culprit(s). Found this today while reading the daily what. Im sure a few of you might have as well but this really struck me.
Click the spoiler after you watch this.
The internet is a more dangerous place than we give it credit for, and this story, which i cant decide on its validity, is a good if creepy example of that. What a tempting prize, my first thoughts were "i totally wanna do that" when i saw the initial offer. Were i unlucky enough to find this first i might have been the one to end up with a knife in me in some welsh field. Creepy as. This probably belongs on the scary thread
Also proof that monsters and huge budgets are not needed for true creepyness. Just good story telling. And a creepy premise.
I'm guessing you're still keeping up to date on Marble Hornets?gmaverick019 said:not gonna lie, those are much more creepier than the video OP posted. The Man With the Soap said:That was really well done. It reminds me of something else I watch regularly.
but still, creepy shit will be creepy..
I was already freaked out and you did that. Ha, my heart skipped a beat that's for sure.sravankb said:I really wish Fortress could continue that story with one last video. No problems, though.
Just turn around and ask him yourself.
