sorry, this is total bullshit, take your clickbait crap to a tabloid website and don't waste our time. There's literally nothing of the sort in any of our company's computers
If they're company computers, I assume they're using Windows "Professional" edition? If so, you wouldn't see it. The free download is only for "Home" users. That's who this affects.
It probably should've (I thought the info had been covered in previous posts on the subject) but it's a little too late for it on this one I'm afraid. My apologies.

Thats explains why my colleagues complained about their mobile data. This is an extremely shitty move by MS.

Lots of users at my company want to upgrade but we have to keep turning them away (im in IT) our AV does not work with 10 most of our peripherals dont work with 10. its not a bad operating system, its just gonna need some time to catch up and get everything working.
what AV are you using? as far as i know almost all of them already caught up.... Peripherals on the other hand... that may take longer. one laser cutter my father uses does not have drivers for anything newer than 7 for example.

If you're worried about your data cap don't have automatic updates on. To then complain that Microsoft is doing what you asked it to do is asinine.
If you are using Win 10 you dont have an option to not have automatic updates on.

When I told him to ctrl alt del to bring up the task manager he said it didn't work, a quick Google search told me what key command he needed for Windows 10, it was completely different. A quick Google search just now told me ctrl alt del isn't enabled by default.

This video shows you how to turn on Ctrl-Alt-Delete in Windows 10.
Mircosoft decided to listen to the whiny idiots that would accidental press shift+alt and blame others for their inability to use a keyboard and now they changed most of shortcuts that were around for over a decade. completely destroying control panel in 8 wasnt enough i guess.

CTRL+Shift+Esc - That brings up the Task Manager.

Also, right click on the start button, you'll see a whole host of commands, including the task manager

And if you right click on the task bar... *gasp* the menu that pops up has the task manager listed too!
The tips you give brings up the task manager as regular program. using ctrl+alt+del to bring up task manager uses interup function which means that windows basically tells whatever fullscreen program that hung to fuck off and puts task manager on top of it. the ctrl+alt+del is much more useful when you got something thats crashed or looped. I use ctrl+shift+esc a lot, but only when its in enviroment that isnt crashed to begin with.

So, if Facebook sells everyone's private information to corporations, and Google tracks pretty much every single thing you search, and forces Content ID tracking down everyone's throats, and when Smartphones are so crazily vulnerable to being tracked and are tracked, and even listening in on your conversations, well that's OK, isn't it.

But when Microsoft gathers data about you for their products and services they offer, which you can opt out of 95% of it...
No, its not ok. I dont use facebook and even dont even let the like button tracking script to load. i have google tracking off which you can do on your privacy settings and my smartphone stays offline and untracked. Not that its very smart anyways...

Also there is a big difference when your operating system does it without your permission versus you accepting to use a service in exchange.

We are using the Corporate version of AVG, the Free Version works just fine but CloudCare didnt work (that is, it didnt when we tested it a 2 weeks ago, it may have been patched now but I have not had a chance to mess with it again)

My friend upgraded to W10, 95% of his games broke.

He downgraded back to W7, his games started working again.

I think I'll stick to 7 for now, there's apparently a problem with W10 not liking DirectX.
Concern numero uno for this rig I'm using right now. I don't have the time nor the patience to fix everything if this update breaks my collection of older titles. Playing games from 2003 and onwards is the entire reason Windows 7 was working great for me. It didn't have the compatibility issues Vista was giving me and I wasn't incentivized to leave it for 8 at all. Generic claims of 'its just faster' aren't convincing me.

I may end up putting a second HDD in and running Windows 10 from that in the future if I really need to for my online gaming but as I stay offline a lot... Hmm...

Might one assume that that is why those of us in Ultimate Edition never got a prompt or icon at all? It never happened to me, and I suppose it never will.

Interesting seeing the number of people saying that auto-updates turned themselves back on after being turned off.

Not enough people know how to permanently disable Windows features via Group Policy, I guess?

You can bypass this bullshit completely by not downloading the original update that nags you with the free update, and then hiding it from Windows Update.
