Doom 3 did not satisfy the needs of a Doom remake... however... I would never call it a bad game.

Doom 3 was VERY well polished... though the gameplay was simple and did not live up to the hype.

I think Doom 3 promised a reboot of Doom in a horror, claustrophobic, frightening environment... which for the most part.. it presented... however... I think the timing was off.

Doom 3 was officially announced, I believe in 2000, and if it had been released in say... 2002... it would have been phenomenal... BUT Half-Life 2 was released the same year in 2004, so Doom 3 appeared very much outdated.

Doom 3 has enjoyable gameplay, beautiful graphics, and a decent storyline.... but if you compare it to the originals... you're bound to be disappointed.... which I don't even attempt to do, I don't believe id wanted to capture the same fast-paced action as Doom & Doom II. Many people bitched about the flashlight in Doom 3... and I get it, but if you were too pussy to deal with it, ***** all you want, there are mods you can get [which were available within DAYS of the game's release], but id obviously felt it would make the game experience better, whether you agree or not doesn't matter, they came to the end of their project and decided that it would be an interesting game mechanic.... maybe they were wrong, install the mod and quit you're bitching, Doom 3 can be played without it.

My suggestion: If you don't like switching between a flashlight and your gun, there are plenty of flashlight mods out there to use, and Doom 3 will be very enjoyable with them.... if you don't care, play the game as id had intended and enjoy Doom 3 AS Doom 3... not as an attempt at a remake.

I enjoyed Doom 3, upto a point. but it annoyed me very much too, and one of the first things I did after playing for a while was download the duct-tape mod... for frankly, that was without doubt the stupidest design decision I have encountered. i also found the combat repetitive. it was move forward, wait for something to leap out, kill. turn corner, wait for something to leap out, kill it. Whilst there were some nice exceptions, the majority of the combat was this repeat of leap/scare and blast.

And the audio logs.... now, I loved the audio logs in both system shock games they gave a setting, built thw world behind the game, and gave faces to dead bodies. it made me care to some extent. it made me wish I could have seen citadel or the Von Braun in better days, before everything had gone horribly wrong. The mars base in Doom 3 sounded so unpleasant I wondered why people were still there, plus the characters were so unmemorable and anonymous. In the system shocks, i could tie each characters stories together, and in 2 I remember feeling a touch down upon finding Delacroix's final log.

Finally, as a remake, it just didn't feel like doom 1. It felt more like a survival horror with bigger guns.

With the entire flashlight arguement, it would be a rubbish horror game with one strapped to a fully automatic assualt rifle and please there's like one or two sections its needed after level 2

and besides doom is two things, the first being the scary parts, knowing that theres a monster that will kill you somewhere

the second is the full on action running down a corridor killing hordes of whatever with shotguns, chainguns, rocket lauchers, and a nintedo shape inspired soul collecting contraption

also when we doom 3 a remake of doom?
