The game itself looks neat (like any triple A Brutal Doom remake would be) but the post-E3 marketting has been lackluster. Had I not seen the initial gameplay demo for the game, I would have never had any interest to begin with. This cinematic trailer is pretty redundant too.

That trailer wasn't good, but the last one I saw that you posted on GT sure was. The game is shaping up quite nicely :)

I guess they couldn't just show footage of the game because it also seems kinda boring.

So, I'm sitting there after the trailer wondering what's bothering me. Then I realize it. Who the FUCK brought a side by side duck gun to a Mars research base? The double barrel makes sense in Doom 2 because it was set on Earth. Not so much in space.
Technically, isn't the bigger question why marines are stationed on a research base at all?

But turns out there's a marine named Hicks who wanted the shotgun on hand for close encounters. When the demons started attacking, turns out he was right. :p

Ah yes. I just saw this before a clip on youtube. I was like, "Wow! That looked AWESOME, now what does the actual game look like?"

Sorry OP, but I wasn't impressed.

Now, if you want a REAL hardcore, manly, and badass game, I'd suggest playing Candice Debebe's Incredibly Trick Lifestyle.

I know the guy might not be breaking any rules or anything (As far as I'm aware of, he may very well might be), but surely the mods are seeing this too? It can't be all of us just being insane people yelling at a neighbour we deem crazy, right?

I slogged through the whole thing. Sorry mate, it's boring. Simply put. "Badass" has been said so much it doesn't mean shit here. That wasn't "badass," in my personal opinion. Doesn't mean someone can't think that, but the most of us here don't
It's not even that I 'hate' the new Doom game and just want B-Cell to stop talking about it. I'm actually excited for the game. I even pre-ordered it on Amazon.[footnote]Primarily because, via Prime, I saved 20%.[/footnote] It's just that him starting a new thread each day (of which rarely have any sort of actual discussion value) is a bit much, even for those who are actually anticipating the game.

If there were some talking point to discuss from the threads, that'd be fine. I'd still think daily reiterations would be excessive, but at least there'd be something to talk about.

Can't you just relax both of you. They are just Thread. I don't think he/she deserve "punishment" to share his/her love for a game. I posted countless Threads about Skullgirls in the past and I didn't heared the same amount of hate about posting them constantly.
Relax? Was I not calm?

Besides, doesn't it seem a bit misguided to be telling us to "calm down" when we're not the ones creating daily threads to say the same thing, over and over?

He's certainly free to "share his love" for a game. But he can do it within any one of the dozens of threads he's already made. He doesn't HAVE to make a new one whenever a new thought, or reiteration of the same thought, enters his head. It's excessive and serves nothing but to spam the forum.

I'm certainly not trying to be a dick in my response. But when one of the users on a forum get to a point where people are making jokes about "another B-Cell thread" within a few posts, one has to ask why. The threads tend to just be "I think Doom, Deus Ex, etc, are so badass everything else sucks, so I'm gonna make a thread about one of these every 2-3 days, say I love them, and provide no discussion value. And tell people with different opinions why the games they like suck and aren't 'badass." It's not just me that's seeing this either. Go look at his other threads. I'm not gonna be the only one who's a little bothered.

If discussion value was created within reach thread made, I think everyone would be much more ok with them. They tend to devolve into game bashing threads though, which is what has everyone grumbling

Despite the meh of this trailer, the game is freaking fantastic. Hopped on the beta, smooth as silk and plays like quake 3 with a modern touch. The multiplayer is fantastic and undoubtly the single player will be as well.
Also: doom marine inspired the bloody space Marines we have today, so step off.
Somebody needs to do his required reading and watching:

Starship Troopers written by Robert Heinlein, published in 1959

Aliens directed by James Cameron, released in 1986

There are many other novels and films that involve space marines since but these two are more or less recognized as popular culture's core influences on the term - and Aliens was still informed by Starship Troopers.

As for the trailer itself, well the scream metal track is pretty shitty but there are demons, blood, guts and guns. Add in Doom!Marine there and you've basically got the Doom experience neatly expressed in a neat package but I agree with my fellows: its pretty fucking generic.

Just wanted to add that one of the most common criticisms against Aliens: Colonial Marines was that it was faithful to the source material to a fault. Even if it managed to reach all its aspirations, it still would have been generic because the movie has been used as a reference point for so long in gaming. Same deal with Doom. In a market that has since been flooded with shooters that were inspired or just plain copied it, how can it stand out?

I'm cautiously optimistic for the new Doom. It looks like Bethesda remembered the game's roots and what made it ferociously popular to begin with -- being a hyper-fast, super aggressive, gore fest. If they can back it up with the solid level design of the originals, it'll be golden.

My main point of reservation from the trailers we've seen, is enemies seem to fall into the "James Bond mook cha-cha line dance of death" where the player fights, at best, pods of 2-3 enemies at once. Sure, Doom 1 and 2 had those moments, but most of the encounters saw the player being greatly outnumbered -- hell, provoking the demons to fight among themselves and backing off to mop up once they'd thinned themselves out was a major mechanic.
