Does anyone have any ideas for a possible release date for DotA2 or a date when valve may make the beta open to the public? Also, I heard that the beta keys that valve is giving out are now no longer including guest passes, does anyone have anything to say about this?

No idea when its officially released. They haven't said a word on it.
And to be honest, right now, its the worst choice out of the MOBA genre (HoN, LoL, DotA all stars). Valve simply are not updating it enough, the last update was last week but before that it was 3 months for an update. the're not even big updates just a new hero and couple balance tweaks.

The gameplay is sluggish too, but now im turning this comment into a review. Overall; don't hold your breath, go play HoN for a better MOBA experience that has had a ~2 years head start in development and refining.

P.S.

Coincidently I have a DotA 2 giftable I got in the winter holiday achievement thing. If you have anything decent I will be willing to trade.
I have a ton of coupons!

-50% psychonauts
-60% Magicka
-50% Dino D-day
-50% Star ruler
-50% Chantelise
-33% Valve!

I'd be willing to trade all of those, plus a virtual hug and kiss for a DOTA 2 invite. Been after one of those buggers for ages.

I had a copy of HOARD, but I decided to play it instead. It sucked, QQ.

It's a Valve game, might come out tomorrow or in 10 years, all I can say for sure is it will be out before HL3... maybe :p

Sorry mate, no thanks. the only one that interests me in the Psychonauts coupon (but I already have it!) Theres always the possibility of gifting me a game *cough*skyrim*cough* and ill gift you dota2 :p
Thank you man, I dont really have many tradable items, but i do have: a copy of Portal, 33% off Valve, 50% off Super Meat Boy, and 50% off Valve. Again i dont think you would be interested in those but i'm just putting them out there. Thank you for your response.

Obviously being a valve game it'll come out just in time for the apocolypse which will coincide somwhat supsicously with the annoucment that all development on half life has been canceled.

-33% Codemasters
-50% Trine

You're talking as if Dota 2 has been released as a full and complete game. Dota 2 is in the closed beta stage of development. The main focus of a beta is to weed out bugs. This is also the perfect time to learn about all the heroes in Dota as they are slowly added into the game, as well as the game's and its many mechanics.

You forgot that DotA has been under development and refining for over nine years. The gameplay is refined thanks to IceFrog. Valve is just moving Dota over to a new engine with less limitations and a new visual direction that emphasizes visual information much like Team Fortress 2.

You also gotta look at the small details Valve puts into their game.

Hero interaction (heroes trash talk each other based on their relationships.)
Hero feedback to the player (Kunkka will say, "Now that was a failboat." when you don't hit any enemies with his ult.)
Visual information (Jakiro's fire head will drool lava when Liquid Fire is off cooldown.)
Easy visual identification (dark background vs. highly lit heroes.)

I want DotA 2 so badly... I don't really have anything to trade, but if someone is feeling really generous and would like to help a fellow gamer out, I'd be so grateful.

As for Release Date speculation, I'm guessing At earliest February 15 and latest Summer Vacations.

Dota 2 will, without a doubt, be out this year. Valve has said that much.

I eagerly await its official release, however. LoL is fun as ever, but is far too easy for my tastes, and many of the champions overlap with each other, which is a bit dull.

I was very interested in HoN back in the days of its closed beta. I thought that it was pretty cool they were making a Dota successor. Then I played for a while, and realized that my eyes can't handle the ungodly explosions of color that many teamfights devolve into. Not to mention, the entire game has such a sophomoric sense of humor. I was content with it to a point, until I started to see how cruel and mean S2 was, and that turned me off of it forever.

Now, after playing Dota 2, it's impossible for me to go back to Allstars. Warcraft 3 has not aged very well in my eyes, so Dota 2 remains my only hope. It has a lot of heart put into it with hero interactions and what not, a great deal of visual aids for the player, and is aesthetically pleasing, unlike HoN.

Plus, it's a Valve game. That helps too.
