or, they just have more time because they are in a dream and time passes much more quickly in a dream. Also, the set where the doctor woke up looked quite a bit like the volcano from Darkwater, so there is another possibility that they are still dreaming from that and that the finale never actually happened.thaluikhain said:
I wouldn't chalk up that tangerine as a grand plot devised by Moffat, the Christmas specials have never played a role outside of introducing a new companion or new doctor (at least for New Who which I am knowledgeable about). It's more likely that its a nod to kids that 'just kidding santa is real' or maybe just a joke for the adult viewers, with just the appearance of the tangerine to leave things ambiguous so they can decide in the future is Santa really does exist in the Doctor Who universe.jab136 said:
Although it is an interesting theory, maybe if it's true then it could explain how they bring the Mistress back alive as a villain after her onscreen disintegration. It could work with season 9 depicting an Earth controlled by the Mistress in its final, with Clara and Doctor believing they defeated her, it would also mean bringing Danny back which I and many others wouldn't like at all.
I was hoping Clara would get a proper send off at the end of this special (which she almost did), and they could start fresh with a new companion. I liked this incarnation of the Doctor, with him being more mean and less sympathetic to others, however I didn't really like Clara or Danny. I kind of liked Victorian Clara, I found her alot more interesting than Modern Clara, It would be cool having a companion who came from the past for a change.
I actually thought that it was a great Christmas special, and definitely one of the better ones that they have done. Nick Frost was fantastic as Santa, and I was really glad that Clara is staying on because she is one of the few reasons why I actually watched all of the last season. That being said though, her being old would have been a great sendoff to her character, but I am happy that she is staying nonetheless.
It was ok I guess. More enjoyable than the bizarre season finale. To me the show still feels like it could do with a little more purpose in it's episodes. I like Peter Capaldi as The Doctor and Clara is a tolerable companion but episodes are rarely satisfying and sadly this wasn't much different.
I've got to say, as someone that stopped watching Doctor Who halfway through the last series, I enjoyed this a hell of a lot more than I expected to. Maybe I'll give the next series a chance seeing as the writers have discovered that having a serious Doctor doesn't mean that he has to shout all the freaking time.

I want to like this new Doctor. I want a dark, dangerous and potentially Chaotic Neutral Doctor (instead of the Chaotic Good we've had since it returned). I like Capaldi as the Doctor, in theory. But... there's just something missing.
Perhaps it's because I was hoping for Danny Pink to become a new Companion for the Doctor, and got my hopes up too high. (I think I'm one of the very, very few people who actually like Danny Pink. Not merely tolerate him, but I actually like the character.) Perhaps Moffat's hand-waving of basic science (see: Kill the Moon) in favour of... well, sub-par stories full of huge leaps of logic that don't really have much of a place in a series like Doctor Who has reached a point where I'm not willing to forgive the leaps of logic anymore.
The last year or so of Matt Smith's run I felt the same way; I thought it was just the let down of finally getting rid of Amy and Rory (two characters who had grown stale in my eyes) only to find that Clara wasn't nearly as interesting as a permanent companion as she was a recurring companion. But the resounding Meh continued on to the specials from last year and all of this season. So I'm thinking that what is making it Meh for me is Moffat.
I think it's time for him to step back and let someone else take over.
