So from what I have seen and heard the next Dragon age could have some flaws the previous game did not have. For instance, I heard there is a lot more action and a lot less story telling (- 5) and that the animation is more cartoonie (- 10) and the weapons are unrealistic in their proportions (-5) as well as the appearance of the enemies are more unimaginative (-5). Being a big fan of the first, I was hoping the second would blow my socks off but from what I hear that could be a negative. Is anybody else hearing the same things?

Stop whinging.
It's Bioware. Did you enjoy Mass Effect? You'll enjoy Dragon Age 2.
Less of this 'Waaaaah! They changed it now it sucks!'

What worked for Baldur's Gate isn't necessarily going to work ten years on.

Well, much as DA2 and news of it is unnerving me, the weapons -were- unrealistically huge already. They had shortswords classed as daggers! and the enemies were hardly massively imaginative. Goblins and orcs and ogres were the badguys, even if they did come with different names. They claim that it'll have just as much story as the first but the whole idea of being forced human bugs me - the forcing the choice as well as the choice itself. I'd be so much happier to play as the character they picked for me if it was REMOTELY INTERESTING, but as ever, it's generic human to the rescue.

I believe those are sufficient answers to all your concerns.

I'm glad they are making changes. Something about Dragon Age just wasn't right. I played about 25 hours of it and I don't know if I liked it or not. That's not a good sign.

Wasn't the first Dragon Age's codex the equivalent of 800 books or something? Alittle less of that and some more action would be a good thing.

The Animation didn't really look all that great in the first, I mean if your character glitched and got stuck in the weapon drawn stance you looked like some idiot. Hell walking around with your weapon drawn makes you look like a idiot :p

The weapons were already unrealistic in proportion. Especially if you were a two-handed sword elf. Worse if you were a two-handed sword elf who was female.

Making unique character designs is f**king hard. And while I'm sure everyone here is willing to wait a few extra months/years while they design new mobs, model them, and then make sure they all have unique abilities, (/sarcasm) I think I'd rather have the game sooner.

Being of a more cynical and jaded breed, I would be tempted to make the joke that they are giving it the Mass Effect 2 treatment.

Just wait until it comes out and if it is worse, then you can start whining. The game still has some time until it comes out or so just wait at least until we see multiple gameplay trailers before you declare it bad.

Yeah, I go to the fourms.

The Art style is knd of like this:

It's kind of more detail then Origins.

As for action? No...it still the old origins style just faster. Storytelling is first as always.

The weapons look better then origins, the only one that you maybe right about is the Darkspawn, who look like jesters.

Of course, those Darkspawn are from the free marches anyway...

So yes, I heard about it.

I can tell it's no joke. The vocal majority aka *cough* "kids" *cough* want all the details removed. Sad. So sad.

I must say I don't enjoy Mass Effect 2 as much. The "improved" aspects (fuck combat) is just a train wreck. Boring and fucking hard to do what you actually intended all the way... tuned for brain atrophy, should I say.

1. It's Bioware. Have they ever lacked in storytelling? Seriously, I wouldn't worry about this one. I'm thinking it'll be action over story in the way Mass Effect 2 is, which I think most people can agree was an improvement.
2. Depends I guess. If the overall feel is as dark as the first game, I don't think cartoonie will really fit it well.
3. Weapon size will depend heavily on art style. I just hope it's not going for a Final Fantasy approach to it. That would suck in an American game.
4. Sorry to say, but they weren't the most original enemies in the first place. Dark Spawn and Orcs are basically interchangeable. Other than that there were trolls, dragons, giant spiders, and ents. Not the most creative set of villains by any means.
I say wait a few months and lets see what actual gameplay looks like before we start crying. I have great faith in Bioware to make fantastic games with the best story telling and game play in any RPG's. Personally, I always hated how things seemed to be out of focus all the time in the first game, so I'm looking forward to an art style update.

Also, IT'S FREAKIN' BIOWARE.

This is the single greatest post I've seen all week. And I couldn't agree with it more.

Oh thank you Jesus, that isn't like what I heard at all. For a moment I thought they were going to go all anime on me! I think I can live with what I'm seeing lol

As long as it isn't as stupidly dumbed down as Mass Effect 2, I'll be happy. I do like RPG elements in my RPGs...

I'm expecting a hack n slash at this point.

Yes, because 'hearing' things will help you make long term decisions and commitments.

The game will be running a newer version of the Unreal Engine, so I don't know why you think Dragon age 2 will have diluted graphics. Haven't you learnt that Bioware RPGs usually get better? Granted they'll be adopting some of the methods from Mass Effect 2, but I think it is a recipe for success as long as they play their cards right.

Here's the long and short: do your research before starting one of these threads. All you're doing is whining.

Please just trust there doing a good job and spare us the bitching until they release it and you can truly see if this makes the game worse.
