Wait...when was it declared that Point Lookout was the greatest DLC ever?

There was one good character, one good quest and one alright quest.

hmmm, can I play it post-campaign, or do I have to load an older save / start a new game?

Also, I keep hearing good things about Old World Blues...it's that good? How does it compare to, say, Shivering Isles?
About the same quality I'd say, some great voice acting in Old World Blues aswell. Sheogorath would like Old World Blues I think :D.

You get accused of holding up an array of erect hand penises. Of course Sheogarath would love it.

I can say that on its own, this dlc is kinda good, yeah. Spoilers ahoy.

The combat had been improved somewhat, although waves are still present and enemies spawn not in front of you, but behind the corner. Additions to the lore and all that are nice, but once again you are just not interested in them while playing.

Environments are not reused, but that's not saying much, it's still the same empty and bland looking DA2. After the beauty of the Witcher 2 it's really glaring.

Party banter is the same endless sexual innuendo which adds nothing meaningful for the characters in terms of character development. The only real additions are given to your siblings.

Hawke is still the same unwilling participant who has NO bearing on the plot whatsoever. Choose the Wardens - final boss dies, choose the old creep - yep, you guessed it, the final boss dies, just like in the main game. The only reason Hawke is needed in this situation at all, is that his father was conscripted to help the Grey Wardens, out of the blue, just because the writers needed some reason for protagonist to be there.

And finally of my biggest gripes with DA2 was that they had so much plot threads left dangling in the wind. This dlc adds another one, once again no matter whom you chose to side with. It is left ambigious, but really, between the mages, templars, chantry, Leliana, qunari, idol, abandoned thaig, idol, Flemeth, mystery of Kirkwall itself, do we need a Tevinter magister running around in a possessed body just like an Archdemon?

The characters to bring for the first go around are Anders, Varric, and your sibling. These three will give you the most out of the DLC.
Seriously? That's a terrible party for ANY class, especially a rogue like myself. Two magi and two rogues? I guess I could play on casual (actually I played most of the game on casual anyway). How important/awesome is Varric's bit? Can I at least switch him out for Fenris or Avelline?

OT: Dusted off DA 2 a few days ago, so I can probably go back in no probs.

So a couple more DLC packs and it will look like an actual game then, twice the normal price but hey it's our good buddy EA how could we pass up on that.

Eh, too late. And ten bucks is too much when I'm still feeling violated by paying full price for the original half-assed game in the first place. I'll watch it on Youtube to see what story revelations there are rather than return to Kirkwall any time soon.

EDIT: And I think the bar has already been set by Lair of the Shadow Broker. Is it better than LotSB?

Sorry, those three points were merely just doing what should have been done from the beginning. It just went to what DA2 should have been, which is the status quo.

Nope, quality DLC is Shivering Isles, Point Lookout, Undead Nightmare, and Liar of the Shadowbroker. Not this. Not to say this isn't good, but it's nowhere near raising the bar for DLC stage.

I actually did it with three mages and a rogue. I didn't take Varric the first time, but more on that in a second. The only part I had a challenge with was the final boss, and then only because Anders died before I figured out how to fight the guy. Played on normal. Just bring some health potions and keep you eye on you party's health and you should do fine.

Anyway, you find out a little about Varric's past--his ancestors--and I'm certain that if he had been in my party, it would have been interesting. Anders should come because 1) he's a Grey Warden 2) he was in Awakening (assuming you have it) and 3) he's a mage that thinks the Chantry is full of crap. That last part is really worth it at the end. Carver/Bethany should come because you learn about your father, and there's a trophy if you do the whole thing with them.

Wait, do you mean he died... in combat? Or....in the story. Because if it's the latter: DUDE, COME ON! Really?

Anyway, I hope the former is what you mean. Also, while we're at it, what happens to Carver? I played as a Rogue, so he had to die for MY inability to perform Magic (There is no Maker). What happens to him if you don't take him on the Deep roads. I know Beth gets shipped away to the Circle.

I'll give the DLC a shot some time.

I can't comment personally on Legacy's quality, but can a two-hour expansion to Dragon Age II really top The Ballad of Gay Tony? Or, in RPG territory, Old World Blues as others have said?

Ha ha. While it would be interesting if Anders died died in the DLC--how then, would the ending of the game go down if he wasn't there?--I meant he got knocked out right away in the fight.

Carver, assuming you play as a mage, is like Bethany. If you take him into the Deep Roads, he will die. If you don't take him into the Deep Roads, you come home to find he's thrown yet another fit and has decided to join the Templars. He promises he won't turn you in, saying "I still know what it means to be family," (jerk), but he's gone, just like Bethany and the Circle. Then there's the third option for both siblings.
Take them into the Deep Roads and bring Anders with you too. Instead of them dying from the Taint, Anders has another idea. I won't spoil it for you, but let's just say it's a better option for Carver than it would be for Bethany.

Haven't played Old World Blues yet I'll have to get back to you on that, I still haven't finished Honest Hearts.
TBGT and any other DLC by Rockstar are ungodly I'll admit, they aren't the same price as this DLC. A three to four hour game for ten bucks isn't a bad deal, some people pay six times that amount for a game of the same length. These are also three of the most polished hours in Bioware games period. I really can't recommend it any more.
