As plenty of people have said so far, it's probably due to Varric retelling the story. Bioware's said several times that there are times where his story differentiates from reality, why not bust size? Exaggeration is a common element in storytelling and if a guys into boobs... you can see where this is going.

Plus it seemed like all the women in DA:O had quite a pair as well. They weren't so perky, but some of the outfights showed how they weren't really small...

I'm pretty sick of hearing people whine about large breasts. It's gotten to the point where people act like anyone having large breasts is unnatural and never happens. I've spoken to a couple of large busted females, and they've noticed it as well, and they aren't even hardcore gamers.

It's almost like some people are jealous that their real life selves or girlfriends do not have a chest that big. Why else should you care? Girls that have big boobs do exist. Just because they are not A or B cup does not make them abnormal.
this i agree with.

I wonder if Picasso had painted a picture of an ultra-busty woman people would be raging out over it.

1. Big deal.. Have you all played other games before? As if this is a new phenomena.
2. It's not your game, the people who designed it can make it however they want.
3. This short vid/demo in no way definitively proves all the women in the game are like that.
4. ...STFU. :)

Side Note: Am I the only one who thinks the game's graphics look way worse that Origins?
That depends, are you playing with directX 9 or DirectX10/11?

OT: Am I the only one who didn't spend the entire demo tit-fixated? I never once eyed up Hawke's mother and (as a guy whose gf has DD's) Flemeth did not have boobs that big.
I actaully haven't played the demo, but from all the video and pictures I have seen, the new game looks so....bland. The Darkspawn just look like yellow humans. Maybe it is because they aren't going to be as big a part of the game, but the least they could have done was to keep the same models.

I don't care if girls with such huge prominent boobs actually exist (though I find it hard to believe) , it looks stupid in a game that's apparently telling a serious story with serious characters. Same as with Chris Redfield in Resident Evil 5; I'm sure there are people who actually look that abnormally muscular, but that doesn't mean I want my Resi protaganist to look like that.

There's also quite a difference between "big boobs" and "big, ugly, unnatural-looking boobs". *points at Isabella*

You can shoot fire out of your hands and you people are complaining about the realism of breast sizes in a made up world? Have you actually read anything of what you've been writing?

Actually the point I was making is that every time a game comes out that may feature breasts there's this big uproar on forums about how it's unrealistic and over-sexualizing. It's like there's no middle ground between pocket-mining teenagers and the sexually repressed.

Personally I like large breasts, I like looking at attractive characters. But I like a good story more and if a game can deliver that they can make the breasts whatever size they like, I don't care. We're really fixating on the wrong parts here.

I think diversity in game characters will come in time. I'd love to see some female characters with a wider wasteline, I'd love to see male characters that were thinner and less muscular. I think eventually we'll get there but it won't be because we complained about tits on the internet it will be because it fits in the narrative of the story and because the developer actually believes that what matters to players is a characters personality. Right now we aren't showing that, we're showing that what matters is a woman's cup size.
Well, I think the reason that there's always an uproar is because the breasts are always big, pronounced and unrealistic. And Hollywood and the game industry don't or won't give us a middle ground! There's either hugely over-sexualized or skinny androgynous female characters. Because the industry focusses so much on the look of a character, we're forced to as well. Just once I'd like to see a tough female character that doesn't have to be gorgeous or big titted. Actually, Uncharted has a pretty good female character in Elena.

I also totally disagree that in time we'll be treated to diversity, especially if Hollywood is any indicator. And unfortunately, Hollywood and video games are uncomfortably close. Sure, there'll always be a minority of characters that appeal to us in a relatable or average way, but I do admit that video games are about fantasy and sometimes it's fun to play these hyper-stylistic archetypes and step outside of normality.

I agree that developers need to believe that what matters is personality and not cup size, but they don't yet and part of that reason is because the audience for games is the same one that reads comic books, watches movies and tv and is already demands the cookie cutter characters we're given.

Frankly I'm resolved to being one of the person that is not entertained by entertainment geared towards the LCD and will always be seeking out the original, niche, indie, less popular products in media.

As a woman, I find it degrading when a game panders to the 16-year old pocket mining demographics by painting some huge titties on the girls, to drive sales. It's demeaning.

Its just not realistic either. As someone thats trained in martial arts I know that if you're working your body in that sort of a way, theres one and only one way you're going to keep those giant tits, and it involves a knife and silicon.
Demeaning? What about all the guys who look like they are out of a super model catalog with huge muscles? Sure they probably don't drive tons of sales, but most guys don't look like that.

Amen to that. I don't mind having a few big breasted women, but let's at least have them actually representing the true demographic, here! Do we really need to have 95% of the women in the game with banging double D's? No, we don't! It's just totally unrealistic, and impractical. Women who went into battle with breasts that big usually had to strap them down, if anything.
And the guy's are representing reality? Sorry don't think so. Most guys are not ripped super models.

You say that as if demeaning men makes it okay to demean women as well.

So you admit it is demeaning to men then? While no one should demean another, it is hard to justify anyone complaining when both sides of the fence are getting hit.

That's an absolutely absurd line of reasoning. It is exactly akin to saying that I should not complain about my illness because there are other people who also suffer from illnesses.

My point was that you were arguing for women's equality when men don't even get equality. If you want it to be fair, you should lobby for both men and women to be portrayed realistically. Not just the girls.

I ... don't really see much reason to carry on a discussion with someone who is clearly putting words in my mouth.

I've just played the demo for the second game in order to get myself familiar with all the changes and all I could notice was that there were giant tits everywhere.

Now I'm not averse to large breasts, but to have them in every single scene and on every single female character is a bit much. Even Flemmeth now has a sturdy DD going and Isabella is 25% of Isabella is her boobs alone. It's to the point where it's just distracting.

I don't know why but I expected a bit more class from BioWare.
Okay, I would agree that Isabela's are a little on the large side, but look:

Female Hawke's are an average sort of size.

Excluding the exaggerated part at the very beginning of the demo, Bethany's are also average.

Aveline looks pretty reasonable to me.

And finally:

Not the best picture, but Merill is kinda on the flat-chested side of the spectrum.
Y'know what people say about her? "OMG PEDO BAIT". It's quite sad, really.

Anyway, my point is, not "every single female character" has a massive bosom, and those that do... there are massive bosoms in real life, you know. Aside from that, it's probably not a good idea to judge the cast of Dragon Age 2 based on a short demo.

Don't get me wrong, as a woman, I find it incredibly frustrating when female characters are over sexualised or ridiculously proportioned, but all of these characters look reasonable to me and Isabela is a very sexual character to start with, she plays up to it. At the end of the day I've not got any complaints and to be honest, the models look a heck of a lot better than they did in Dragon Age: Origins. At least there's some variation now, instead of them all looking big-shouldered and identical.

You never said anything about men at all, just the women. So I said " If you want it to be fair, you should lobby for both men and women to be portrayed realistically. Not just the girls." If you think that is putting words in your mouth, I don't believe you know what that means.

2 questions, is the demo on PS3 and does the demo take place in the games beginning or in the middle of the game

I'm a hetero chick and even I was distracted by Isabela's breasts. I mean, good Lord. They take up like half the screen!

I laughed when I saw Isabella in the demo. It'll be hard to take that character seriously.

I suppose this wouldn't be too bad if several other woman depicted in the game were different sizes...but somehow, I doubt that will ll be the case.
