Why am I not hearing any middle ground? Everyone's either "THEY DUMBED IT DOWN SO MUCH!" or "I AM IN MY THIRD REPLAY, STFU, H8ERS!"

I mean it seems like it's a good game but I've heard they recycle dungeons and a lot of it is shorter and less in depth. I played the demo and enjoyed the flow of combat that changed somewhat.

Recycled dungeons and spawning enemies. If it weren't for these I would have liked the game a lot more.

I don't want to jump on the 'I hate the game' bandwagon because I think the game is fairly awesome. However despite the game being technically superior to origins (combat, graphics, etc.) it just doesn't feel as epic as origins did.

The main problems I think was that
1) the map was small - really bioware one city, you've created a whole frigging world and you chose to put the sequel in one city with only a COUPLE different dungeon layouts.

2) The story just isn't as gripping as origins, act 2 was good and some of the side quests are good. But, act 3 was stupid and why is it that all mages are blood mages.

So yeah I really enjoyed the game but I just feel another 6 months of development would vastly improved the game.

N.B. FUCK you EA.

Outside of the repeating use of dungeons, which is more an annoyance then something I hate, the thing that I really hate is the unbridled hate campaign that has been let lose against this game like it kicked a baby down the stares while shagging your mum. I understand that people were disappointed in aspects of the game, I was too, but the frothing rage over it makes you think people were forced to give up their first born.

OK, let me make a list:

-Reusing the same four maps 500 times.
-The whole game basically takes place in one city.
-Enemies have tons of HP and come in waves so the game feels longer.
-Frame narrative to avoid being too descriptive about what happens between large periods of time.
-Millions of stupid side quests that have nothing to do with anything. (All RPGs do this however, so not really a biggie)
-Inability to customize companions allows you to skip designing different armor models.
-Poor character development, I hardly cared about anyone at the end.

Also Anders was turned into some sort of al-Qaeda homosexual which made me really sad.

DA:2 was anticipated as the RPG game of the century, but in the end was mediocre at best. Much like Halo 3, the hate is just the result of disappointment.

I enjoyed the game, but we all know Bioware can do better.

Simple.

Bioware, a beloved developer, screwed up BIG-TIME after critical successes like ME2 and DA:O. Currently, DA2 stands at the second lowest rated Bioware game on Metacritic (81 not bad but well below Bioware standards) and is seen as a the ruination of a working concept.

I mean Bioware had it all with DA:O but then decided to screw it up by releasing a unfinished product that had an abrupt ending, poor writing, and lack of big consequences with the choices you made.

I mean honestly can anyone tell me the difference with the choices in the ending? Both sides still turn on you and war still comes despite everything you do.
Oh my. This. Thousands times over.
And people, seriously, we get you don't like us talking about all the things that went wrong with this game, but they are there. Why don't you go to the "The things I love about DA2" thread and stay there where everyone is happy?

Couldn't possibly be that I'm just mentioning it because I think it's funny.
Or perhaps that I'm avoiding any actual bitching because we've already had so fucking much of that.
Heh. I hated Carver. Man, everything the guy said was just... soooo.... whiney. I'm SO glad I got rid of him. TO THE GREY WARDENS!

In an unrelated note, I made my guy look like Danny Trejo.

Have only recently started playing it, and having been a massive fan of DA-O initially found myself horrified , thought it was a definite case of style (??) over substance, everything looks great ,but too samey for locations, and the animations incombat sheesh everything goes balls out, and no wonder thins can spawn/sneak up behind you, all the groovey little spin kicks even from mages you would loose your sense of direction.

That aside, the very limited character option was a pain, and the somewhat (to begin with) wooden voice acting grated slightly, however, the more I play, the more I like it. Character "banter" while travelling is pretty funny, maybe not quite up to the Alistair / Morrigan slagfests but entertaining.

I did find the game disappointing to start with, but it is growing on me. Sadly I dont think it will ever be another Baldurs Gate or Planescape epic in my eyes, but it seems that the company is trying for a diffferent angle.

I do not hate this game, I just dont love it .. rating maybe 6 - 7 /10

Cliffhanger ending, recycled areas.
What I don't get are reactions to the cliffhanger (which I haven't seen since I don't own the game but which is obvious if you know anything about the game and its frame narrative) in the way of "ooh, so we are going to get another sequel!". Do these people think they created this franchise just to make one or two games in it? No, this will last another decade, and that's an extremely pessimistic estimation.
Anyway, they should have told the whole story instead of demanding another expensive pre-order every time you want to see how things play out.

One of the previous 8,000 threads populated by the same 5 people making the same easily rebutted arguments over and over and over and over and over in some endless backpatting ritual and blithely ignoring every attempt at rational discussion weren't enough for you? You had to have another one?

We get it. The game killed your Dad. You are now thirsty for revenge. WE GET IT.

Recycled environments, everything looks the same inside a lot of the dungeons. The random pick up quests are kind of stupid too, i.e. the one where you pick up someone's corpse off the floor of a cave and bring it to lowtown. I didn't actually do that for a few days (gametime) so I assume Hawke smelled pretty awful when he gave it to the guy.

Edit:

If you count the complaining about Dragon Age 2 in this question I'd probably rank that as #1.

What makes me the most angry about Dragon age 2 is all the whining and complaining about it from people. Yes it's not perfect, few games actually are, and that includes Dragon Age: Origins, but it's an enjoyable experience which is for me what a game should be at it's best. If you like it or dislike it though, you are entitled to your opinion, but why people feel the need to go on multiple threads starting a whiny hate fest I shall never understand.
This.

Dragon origins had a 10 year development cycle and this game is still about an 8/10.

Recycled dungeons were there in orgins. I would have liked to played as other races, but I'm not going to chastise them for wanting to mix things up. I would have liked more new enemies, but maybe that wouldn't make sense in the time and place setting. Storywise I would have liked more of a follow up on the Morrigan thing, but I guess that's left for a sequel. As for companions, I liked some of the origins crowd more, but they were still more memorable than some of those from awakening...

I'm half-way through my second playthrough now and I think it might be my new favourite game.
This Pretty much...Its not the best game sure....but i mean its still really really good...and I like the whole..."have a loving conversation in the middle of the deeproads takeout" i mean.....how do you say "i love you" in the middle of the deeproads.....makes sense where you gotta be at their house or something. What I don't like tho...is how you cant go back and play the first one...It feels SOOOO SLOW NOW... lol

Carver is annoying, and some of the glitches piss me off.

Other then that it is not leaving my Xbox or PC for a long time.

How you cannot use certain abilities/spells on some enemies. That gets me mad. Other than that I love this game.

Actually, the demo contains some of the best combat of the entire game. The mechanics (except a couple boss fights) are identical for all fights with any and all enemies, but in the demo area the enemies can be seen coming from some distance, giving you time to react and prepare. In the rest of the game, they literally pop into existence all around you. Every fight has 2-4 waves and there's always a fight (or five) between you and the next cutscene. Even if you're just grocery shopping.

Between mechanically identical fights and enemies, rampant level scaling, and constant area reuse coupled with having to revisit many of the already reused areas several times per act, the game is a grindy MMORPG-like experience with only some entertaining dialogue thrown in to remind us that this was supposed to be a BioWare game. Oh, and your reward is a nearly exact replica of the infamous KotOR 2 ending, except you aren't even gived the satisfaction of a denouement of any sort.

They should've called the game Kirkwall: The Brown City and it would've been received much better.

But the worst part in the game is the unfortunate implications that the paper-thin, railroaded story brings:
The "main" conflict of the game is between Templars and Mages. Templars make clear allusions to Nazis, complete with a The Tranquil Solution being casually mentioned at some point... (Not that the Right of Annulment is any better, but at least it doesn't actually directly invoke the Holocaust!) And not only the Templars are repeatedly shown to be completely right about the mages (and, if anything, too lenient), but they also have a handy excuse for any perceived wrongdoings, "the idol made Meredith do it".

And then Judas does 9/11 to make Hawke an inspiration for a world-wide revolt against organized religion. Or something similarly stupid.
Maybe they should just stick to the Twilight-inspired romance.

What makes me most angry about Dragon Age II, is all of the people constantly complaining about Dragon Age II.
