It looks like the last sequel that Bioware did well was Baldur's Gate 2. (Don't mention ME2, the people that hated ME liked ME2 which means it failed as a sequel, but succeeded as a game, which isn't the same thing)
I loved ME1 and I loved ME2. Try not to push your own views on everyone else.

The first game was called Origins...

That was the main idea with the first one, but the sequel will have a new idea. I think that it will probably be more about your choices affecting the story.

I think the character of Hawke is just the human characters last name instead of everyone being called "Warden" I think each race will still be available and each will be referred to by a different name (or at least I hope so I dont want to play as some toolbag human I want to play a Dwarf) and I think they can include Origins in this one too because s/he wasnt a refugee her/his entire life s/he probably had a job in some sort of combat driven profession IE: Templar before becoming a refugee. Or Inversly it could be because they are building an overarching story for DA3 so changing Hawkes race would fuck up the Space time continuum or something. Or maybe its all an elaborate joke and theyre just going to repackage Oblivion and sell us that but with dwarfs and companions.

I find it very amusing that the OP calls out the sequel for being generic, because DA:O is a completely original work.

First off I loved both ME1 and 2.
Second off the best thing about DAO is bioware were taking a crack recreating baldur's gate, arguably the best rpg made.
OK so while DAO was good it wasn't that good, without the dnd rule system the game mechanics where a bit unbalanced and the world felt less vivid at least it was a good first attempt.

As far as the character customization? If you really want that load up a copy of sims, I actually found it a bit of a distraction. Its a roleplaying game not dress up.

That said bioware haven't really said that is going away, just like they haven't really said you cant play a elf or a dwarf. They have just said your characters name will be Hawke.

No they've said in their 5 things about Hawke article that Hawke will be human, and will start as a refugee from Lothering.

Theres also the chance that there not taking anything away and that while hawke is there you still have another charachter of your own say a side charachter or something

theres lots of ways it could turn out and well have to w8 and see if there right

but yeah in my mind molding my own charachter is the core of most RPG's

plus its a guy i tend not to use male avatars in my games because id rather have something that isnt a giant ball of muscle to look at

i hope that it has the same qualitys that made the first one great it would seem wrong for them not to do it that way in my mind but hey maybe the console test audiences need a Tough looking hero and thats what biowares giving them

while origins was customised for the PC there still making there money in the consoles

No, they've explictly stated that you have to be human.

You know I think I'm just going to give up on Bioware now. Each game I hope that they've spent more time and effort on a good story or improved quest design and what do I get? Enslaveing nations with necromancy and fight like a Spartan.

You may some good points, but this is hyperbolic nonsense.

My first reaction when I heard there was going to be a sequel was "Yay" I thought it would be a follow on to the original. But when I actually read the info I lost interest completely.

I quite like ME1 and ME2 for different reasons but DA is such a good game I don't understand why they have to simplify it and make it like ME2.

The one thing that really annoys me about ME1 and ME2 is the use of the character's surname in every other bit of dialogue, who talks like that in real life? It just seems unnecessary, you should be able to choose your own character name and have people talk to you normally. By the sounds of it this is going to happen in DA2 as they're calling the character Hawke

"Discover a whole realm rendered in stunning detail with updated graphics and a new visual style."
Not to mention this. Alright, just look at the concept and cover art then read that..... Shit.

This should piss everyone off as well, but at least the voice acting is there. I am really annoyed at the "iconic" look thing though, in Mass Effect because they put so much focus on making Shepard "beautiful" there wasn't any genuinely good customisation options. It does say think like a general and fight like a spartan though, so we'll either be able to comfortably order around ally's or we'll have to do the annoying as hell unit ordering thing like at the end of Origins. The fight like a spartan part is promising though, it will either mean flashier animations, smoother attacks or, hopefully, actual control over Hawke's attacks.

Just a note as well, if you don't like games just because they're popular so you can be cool and individual... it just shows people that you have poor taste. Well done you.
A lot of the popular games are over hyped to the point where it will never live up to what people say it is, so instead of just being a decent or good game, the over hype makes it a bad game. I could care less about Dragon Age 2. I'm not going to be buying it because Dragon Age has become less of a game and more of a chore. It was really hard to get into, then for a week I was addicted to it and played about 24 hours in that week, then completely lost all interest in the game. Now I'm trying to play it again and it is just bland and boring. Plus it is a bit too far on the fantasy side for me to tolerate...

Personally I'm annoyed because all of my work in origins was pointless as my character doesn't matter because Hawke is going to be the most important character from now on even if they continue the origins story.

It's way too early to be making presumptions about the games content, considering the amount of info we've been given. I'll need to see more before I decide what I think about it.

I trust Bioware enough that they aren't going to totally fuck it up.

Oh, and like everyone else said, I enjoyed ME2 and ME equally.
I'll agree with you on this one, Furburt.

Problem is, I'm not playing it if I have to play as a certain character; that's what Mass Effect is for.

Seriously, I don't want to be handed an origin story. I want to make my own origin story; like Baldur's Gate 1 did for Baldur's Gate 2.

It was the origin stories that started Dragon Age on the right track.
That was the point. The game was even called Dragon Age: Origins.

They're taking the new game in a new direction and for that, I applaud BioWare. Most would just make a carbon copy of the game with a new, prettier wrapper. But not them.

As far as i am aware, how Hawke became a "champion" isn't predetermined. In fact, the article i read suggested that you had a fair amount of control over how he (or she) picks up that title. That could be the origin option.
Either way, we'll probably be getting it, but it to me sounds like they're taking Origins away from not just the title.
I don't necessarily think that there will be a choice of different origin opening sequences to play through. But i do think that the player will be given the means to define who their character is before the quest starts proper.

We know that Hawke escaped the Blight, and we know that he became a Champion (and that this fact is quite important to the game). There is a lot of room to define Hawke between these two events; i think that this period of time could be considered his "origin".

As i said earlier, it seems to me as though there are many ways to become this Champion, and give your character a history or backstory in doing so.

I'm not worried about him being as pre-set of a character as Commander Shepard is my main point. This seems to be a major concern among some fans.

Bioware is dumbing down their games to try and line their pockets. They dont "listen to the fans" anymore, they only listen to their greed. If you read some of the smug dev comments on the boards youll realise what a bunch of arrogant posers these prats are.

Dont hold out much hope for DA2. I certainly dont hold out hope for ME3 after I saw the dumbed down trash it got turned into with ME2.

I thinks it's cute that people believe that a forum post "pushes" your thoughts into their feeble little minds. It is an opinion exressed to try to obtain intelligent discourse on a subject. That's a forum.

I do however, have to eat a bit of crow (does anyone still know what that means). I had stated earlier that I was 100% on my gut feelings. That is not true and I now regret saying that. I had high hopes for ME2 and was greatly dissappointed. (I know there are people who liked ME2 better. I know there are people who didn't. I've gotten lots of comments on both sides and that argument won't be won by adding additional generic comments.) So I have been wrong once before and I hope I am wrong about DA2.

Maybe Morrigan will reappear with a creepy CELL SHADED twig arm!
