Dragon Age Inquisition on Frostbite- the trailer

We've all seen the new trailer, right? Bioware swears up and down that it consists of in-game footage and not CGI. If it's true, I think it looks incredible! Certainly more suited to some of DA's darker themes than the cartoony appearance of DA2, imo. As expected however, the uber-toxic Bioware forums are already filled up with complaints about the changes in character appearance and design, so I escaped a few moments after logging in there. (Not sure why I even keep my BSN account tbh.) Speaking as a Varric fan-girl, I LOVED the new look. I'm biased, of course, when it comes to my second favorite ever Bioware character to date, but I think, aside from slightly darker looking hair and the dashing scar he's managed to get in the intervening years, he looks pretty much the same as he did in DA2. Cassandra seemed close as well. The only really appreciable difference I noticed, and am ambivalent towards, was Morrigan's new look. Someone said that she was remodeled based on a younger version of Claudia Black, but I don't know if that's accurate or not.

So what did you think fellow escapists? Any thoughts on the new look of Thedas?

Oh - I can see it, I'm just uncertain as to whether BW intended to Morrigan look more like her voice actor (or at least, the way she looked as Aeryn Sun) or they just tweaked her face to make it more compatible with the new engine design capabilities.

edit: I suppose, now that I've typed it, that ^ seems a little silly. It looks pretty obvious that they redesigned her to look to look more like Claudia, doesn't it?

Well, the game's not due out for another 16 mo or so, so I'm sure we'll be seeing some actual game play content in the next 6 mo or there-abouts, as the game gets closer to actual completion. That said- DAI is supposed to have multiplayer, and I'm really hoping for an early demo release something along the lines of ME3 (as long as that's the ONLY part of ME3 it emulates, lol). I spent so much time with my friends on the MP demo before the actual game came out that I was ready to burst with curiosity for the SP mission. Fingers crossed!

Nope- official release date is Fall 2014.

Even if this is really game footage, its all cutscene game footage, not gameplay, nothing to really judge except that Morrigan is back (was she in the second game?, still not played it).

Wild speculation time:

Is that Hawk's body that Varric is kneeling over at the beginning? Or is that Hawk's profile at the end? The profile amidst the flames really reminded me of the default male Hawk.

Is that an archdemon or a High Dragon? Possibly Flemeth, though her dragon form looked pretty different in DA2...

The trailer is cool, and I have no problem with the redesigned characters (Morrigan is hot as ever, and doubly so now that I've actually seen Farscape). But on the other hand Bioware has really fallen out of favor with me, and I can't help feeling that the trailer was just generically epic without actually giving anything away. So I'm cautiously optimistic... But with an emphasis on the cautious. Definitely a game to keep an eye out for though.

I'm pretty willing the give the series another chance. I find the world and lore to be pretty engaging so hopefully they don't fuck it up like the second one.

I was extremely happy to see Morrigan - even if she did, er, grow moles - and Varric.

Really can't wait to get some info on the story and what character options we'll have. Keeping my fingers crossed for variety - I'd love to be able to pick my race as well as class. DA2 was fun, don't get me wrong, but... I don't play RPGs to be a human!

I'm just happy (and sad -.-) that it's still so far off. Means they are taking their time. Thumbs up for that (though damn...that'll be a long 14 months).

Graphically, if that's really in game, it looks real fuckin' good. Still got the Bioware Glare issue though but whatevs I've lived with that since the days of KOTOR and Jade Empire.

I am interested to see how it'll turn out, hopefully it's a bit more tactical and choices end up actually meaning something (though with what Bioware have said in the past I'm not getting my hopes up).

Right now they just need to give me more Varric and Zevran and possibly some Shale and I'm happy.
