Well, it's a Frostbite 3 engine game. It's pretty scalable and the game is supposed to run on the old-gen consoles as well. I expected something like this.

If they've done the port right, machines with 'recommended' specs will probably be on par with next-gen consoles when it comes to graphics. HD7870 is a little bit weaker version of AMD's GPU in XBone and PS4.

Also, Inquisition is Frostbite 3, so it will support Mantle at one point. That means that you can have a much weaker CPU, as long as you have a GPU from AMD that supports Mantle.

Is this a good time to mention my low expectations on this game? No? Okay, I won't do it then.

That is actually pretty decent, and my PC is just a little over the recommended specs, so that is nice (Planning on also getting a GTX 970 on my birthday to get MORE POWAH). Game is pretty big though, so that should be a fun download, probably get it done overnight (30GB takes me about 12 hours).

EDIT: Huh, turns out that the 2GB GTX 580 that I thought I had is actually a 1.5GB GTX 580. I still run BF4 absolutely fine on high, and I have an extra 4GB RAM more than the recommended, as well as having a better CPU, so hopefully that makes up for it. Shit.

Awesome. I surpass everything in recommended except the graphics card, which I've been meaning to change soon anyway. Glad to know my "planning for the future" worked out well.

Those requirements are very reasonable. Huh.

Now, let's see if it's a case of Tomb Raider Legend's "AAHHAHAHAHA FOOLED YOU" requirements.

I half-expected something like i7 and R9 290 or TITAN to boost sales of the high-end cards. But that is pretty reasonable, except that as far as I know 660 doesn't have 3GB of VRAM. Is it supposed to be Ti edition?

Perhaps it is because I do not follow Radeon, but isn't the 7870 somewhat similar to the GTX 660?
Apparently it is pretty much the same as a 660 TI and 760, so pretty much.

Nice to see the 8800 soldiering on on the minimum requirements. The little GPU that could play Crysis remains apparently unstoppable.

Other way round, the PS4 graphics chip is the same one found in a 7870 (as in the GPU core itself is identical), but only has 18 of 20 compute units enabled, probably to aid in consistent manufacturing. It also has access to less power (for cooling reasons) and a slower memory controller. It's about level in performance with a stock 7850 and around fifteen to twenty percent slower than a 7870.

It helps explain how Sony hit the $400 price point though, that's a lot of R&D saved when you hand AMD a $250 retail GPU and say 'one of these in every box please,'

The Xbone GPU on the other hand, is terrible. Custom for Microsoft but about a third to half slower than the PS4/7850 are depending on how effectively the esRAM is used. It would run faster if Microsoft had specced proper graphics card RAM like Sony did, but nevermind.

In either case, both machines being slower than what was considered entry level hardware over two years ago doesn't bode well for the future of HD gaming.

Well, I'll be damned. My computer actually meets the specs for this except for the video card... I think. I'm not very tech savvy.

I mean, I'll still be buying this for the PS4 initially since my entire family wants to play this but I may pick it up for the PC at a later date if Origin has it on sale.

I just ordered a GTX970 this morning. Out of stock tho so god knows when it will arrive.

OT:
Considering we are at the start of a new gen as well as the fact that this has to run on last gen stuff as well I think it is good. Now I just have to wait for reviews (BiowEAr don't get my money on day one anymore, been burned one to many times) and assuming it is good then have to make up my mind if it is worth instaling Origin.

Oh my poor little, long-suffering PC.

Really regretting installing 32 bit windows before my DVD drive packed it in, leaving me unable to upgrade.

I'm an owner of an MSI GTX 660ti pe, it's got 2gb which has me confused since recommended says 3gb and yet lists a 660 up there, I'm wondering this because I don't remember there being a 3gb 660 model, not one that I'd know of.

Still I'm more or less wanting a 780 for next year since the 900 series still seems expensive for me and I'm hoping at least near enxt year that the 780's will become cheap like when I managed to snag my 660ti.

The KFA2 Overclocked 660TI has 3GB I only just replaced it, I bet theres several heavy duty 660's that have them.

On another note I highly doubt this game will use 8GB of RAM. I just wish developers would stop giving out random figures and actually give a somewhat accurate spec.

bwahaha. my specs destroy the recommended specs, which isn't a surprise with the frostbite 3 engine and how multiplatform this game is.

that said, it'll be interesting to see if it runs like ass like many games with fluffed requirements do (8 gb's of recommended ram? really?)

Specs are always nonsense in my experience. I'm around or slightly above the minimum, but I bet I'll be able to max out the game with no slowdown at all. This happens with almost every game I buy. I don't get why people go out and buy the latest most expensive GPU. Maybe they have too much money to know what to do with it.

The last time specs were useful to me was in the 90s, when if you didn't have enough ram the game wouldn't run.

Yeah I won't be running this so I guess I'm just not playing it at all since I don't own any of the latest consoles, oh boy I love having to wait/s.
