After playing this game for a few hours I stopped playing when I realised that I was completely bored.
Can someone please explain to me why this game has received so much praise. All I found was that the combat was terribly repetitive with no grounds for creativity and very similar to the combat found in WoW. On top of this the graphics are shockingly bad along with the conversation menu. What possessed bioware to take a step backwards and use a generic and resultantly bad conversation system over their innovative mass effect conversation menu?

And I played it on the PC. It still has terrible graphics. Why was a game like this released in 2009 when it could have easily been released in 2006/7?

Hated the graphics and I'm pretty sure that the game is better overall (combat wise and graphics wise) on PC. I had the 360 version. Other than that, I loved it. Good story, good characters, great dialogue.

I agree i found the first few hours crap, the Mage Tower don't get me started, i played a bit more and started to enjoy it.

Dragon age dev started before 2004 so some things from that time may remain in the final product.

Xbox version, nuff said.
PC version. Either way, that does not address the dire gameplay or conversation menu which put me to sleep numerous times.

Absolutely despised it. If it were a country I would've declared war on it by now.
Awful story I didn't care about, boring and disgusting looking game world, none too good graphics, and the talking, my dear God the TALKING. Fucking overdone. Yes, nice voice acting, I understand that, stop forcing me to listen to it! I want to play a game! Also, AMERICAN DWARVES. America.... just, no. This is too far. You've fucked up our Red Dwarf, our Life on Mars, our The Office, and now our Dwarves. You take the Inbetweeners and shitify it and me and two of my friends have vowed to declare war on you personally. /rant
The gameplay was significantly better than the rest of the game in that it was just alright. I liked the way it seemed like WoW, but condensed for the Xbox 360 controller.

Right, see the problem is that it's an EA game. EA is the soul-sucking demi-god of pure, un-distilled evil. I'm almost certain they use the souls of orphan children to write data on their disks. Haven't found proof granted, but I know it's there.

Now as for Dragon Age, well the main bit is that it's a small expansion that's been showcased as practically Dragon Age 2 but the fact is, small expansion. It will give you a few hours of decent gameplay and storyline but in the end it's just another wannabe sandbox game that is really as linear as it gets.

Don't get me wrong, I love linear games. You start, you end. Simple. I just can't stand it when they try to say it's not, bugger off and be honest EA, we're on to you.

maybe it's not yo' "thang"

I say you play a bit more. You can't really judge the whole game until you finished it.

It's a million times more visualy appealing on the PC + added mod support shines it up even further its the x-box own shortcoming thta it never released some sort of mouse+compatability you really need it for the full dao experience.

*Looks at time played*

Well, I've got over 100 hours played on it. It's not boring and is reminiscent of, although no where near as good as, Baldur's Gate.

You have different tastes than others?

Personally I really enjoyed the game, but there are other games I have played that have gotten great reviews and praise that I didn't enjoy to much.

I was just talking to a friend about that, now Baldurs Gate was a epic series. That and Arcanum. Back in the age where scripting was 80% of game development.

I've played it for over 150 hours out of lack of anything else to play.

I still enjoy it somewhat.

Mass Effect is (fucking brilliant and) mainstream.

Dragon Age: Origins is (fucking brilliant and) not mainstream.

Words cannot describe how stupid this is. Literally. THERE ARE NO WORDS.

When did anyone ever say Dragon Age wanted to be a fucking sandbox? At least I can see where people are coming from when they pull that argument out for Mafia.

Jesus titty-fucking Christ, I'm actually in awe of you right now.

The conversation system is more of a throwback to their older games, like Knights of the Old Republic and Balder's Gate.

The main thing I noticed is that you said you played for a few hours. The thing is, the combat's boring at the starting (at least I thought so) mostly because your characters are so low level. It took me sixty hours to beat the full game, the combat improves as you level up and gain access to more abilities and powers. And let's be frank, the combat system is basically a dumbed down D&D construct, if you don't like that then there's no way you'll like Dragon Age's combat.

Also Bioware games usually focus on great characters and plotlines rather then combat. I'd suggest you check out a wiki online and get as many as the companions as you can, because honestly they're some of the most well-developed characters in video game history.

Bioware was trying to make a more 'hardcore' and old fashioned RPG then Mass Effect was. For people like me, who grew up with Ultima, this is amazing. To others, it's seen as a stepback. To each his own.

I liked it, the game hard enough to be fun, the gameplay was of a type I liked and graphic doesn't matter to me.

The gameplay is a mix of strategy and RPG.
The writing is great.
The game isn't the problem, you are.
Yes, the graphics are indeed bad, but that doesn't really matter.

^ This.

On a rather un-related side note:
