I say you play a bit more. You can't really judge the whole game until you finished it.
Dragon Age didn't make me want to play it. Why would I play the whole game if just to judge it if I can't stand the first few hours?
This may seem stupid, but I personally consider a game bad if it genuinely makes me not want to play it to the end. Dragon Age being a prime example.
Mass Effect being the only anomaly; I think it's very good, gameplay was very fun, I just didn't like the talking. I saw why it was good though, and respect it's success.

Because people tend to have opinions. If you didn't like it, well good for you; maybe it just isn't your thing.

Tell that to my rogue who can two-hit kill most minor enemies and one-hit kill mages with poison :p

Awful story I didn't care about, boring and disgusting looking game world, none too good graphics, and the talking, my dear God the TALKING. Fucking overdone. Yes, nice voice acting, I understand that, stop forcing me to listen to it! I want to play a game! Also, AMERICAN DWARVES. America.... just, no. This is too far. You've fucked up our Red Dwarf, our Life on Mars, our The Office, and now our Dwarves. You take the Inbetweeners and shitify it and me and two of my friends have vowed to declare war on you personally. /rant
Man, Bioware's Canadian.

Right, see the problem is that it's an EA game. EA is the soul-sucking demi-god of pure, un-distilled evil. I'm almost certain they use the souls of orphan children to write data on their disks. Haven't found proof granted, but I know it's there.

Now as for Dragon Age, well the main bit is that it's a small expansion that's been showcased as practically Dragon Age 2 but the fact is, small expansion. It will give you a few hours of decent gameplay and storyline but in the end it's just another wannabe sandbox game that is really as linear as it gets.

Don't get me wrong, I love linear games. You start, you end. Simple. I just can't stand it when they try to say it's not, bugger off and be honest EA, we're on to you.
Words cannot describe how stupid this is. Literally. THERE ARE NO WORDS.

When did anyone ever say Dragon Age wanted to be a fucking sandbox? At least I can see where people are coming from when they pull that argument out for Mafia.

Jesus titty-fucking Christ, I'm actually in awe of you right now.
Dragon Age is largely mainstream, it's a top seller.

Yes, Mass Effect is fucking brilliant and I loved it, I still hate EA. Bioware has a record of doing very decent games and I did not say Dragon Age was crap. It has a rich storyline, lovely scenery and very decent characters. The classes are short and sweet and if you're up for a few hours of gameplay every once in a while, it's a bit of fun.

My complaints however, are on the EXPANSION. It was a huge let down and jesus the way they made it sound at E3 was that it was God on Earth breast-feeding you chocolate milk and cookies. But no, it wasn't all that great.

It's Dragon Age! Why would the expansion attempt to be a sandbox?!

And it's mainstream in terms of sales, not so much in gameplay.

I loved it. But I only played to the part were you fight that draco, it was like a very tiny dragon. I wasn't far into it, so I want to buy it.

I didn't think the graphics were that bad, sure they're not as good as say, Mass Effect 2, but I wouldn't really think of it as much of an issue. Now the gameplay being boring as hell, that's an issue...

When I was at E3 and they explained it, they made it out to sound as if there was more choices and options in which you could roam around and develop your character/storyline. More interactions with NPCs and the like, I didn't much find that when playing it.

Regardless, it's just a small add-on to the game and for the money it cost I didn't find it up to snuff for the cash.

Maybe it's just not the game for you ? You know, the thing that a game gets rated high still doesn't mean every single person on earth will fall in love and want to have babies with it. They even had a saying in latin - "De gustibus non est disputandum".

But to be perfectly honest, i still don't get what people didn't like about Dragon Age graphics? For me they were perfectly good, models were smooth, animations were quite good, level of detail was more than adequate for how the game was supposed to be played, so what exactly was wrong with them? It's not an action hack-and-slash god of war clone where you have the camera focused on your character butt with zoom-in on max.

/turns to afformentioned rogue.

"hello mr. rogue. Nice poison that can two-hit most minor enemies ^.^ I'm the mage of the group. I'm also the tank because I'm a battlemage with tonnes of HP, heavy armor, a shield, flaming sword and more AOE spells than you can shake a stick at. I specialize in fire, ice and death magic, which menas I can put the Curse of Mortality on you and track your movements, damage you constantly and it lets me use the Cone of Cold on you, turning you into a roguecicle. Nice ta meetcha! ^.^"

Yeah I found the graphics decent so I did, especially textures and lighting was fair enough. However, that bloom is sneaking in..again.

I was suggesting the OP to play more because he mentioned he only played a few hours.

Is this another 'why do people have different opinions than me?' thread? I think so.

Answer: You don't have to understand why people have different opinions and tastes than you, just accept that they do, and life will be much better. The fact that it sold well and was critically very well received says that people obviously did like the game.

Also, play more before making a proper judgement.

Eventually it turns into a dungeon crawler with MMO esque gameplay. Tank, Healer, DPS, etc...

It was good to go through once and I'm sure I'll go through it again some time but it just gets repetitive.

I think by now people got so used to extensive bloom and blur in videogames they would find it disturbing if developers stopped adding it. Plus, it's pretty much basic of art theory, by lightning and contrasts you create focus points that help to sharpen the important parts of image. While in a still frame it's much easier to achieve it just by gentle tone changes, games are quite motion heavy and thus you need much stronger effects.

I hated it for the exact same reasons (save the complaint on the conversation whatever). But for some reason, when I replayed the game for a second time I actually got used to the battles. Mainly because I was thinking like a shooter and a platformer, not like a roleplayer.

The graphics? I think they were simply doing Dragon Age as a side-project while their main focus was Mass Effect 2, so I think the graphics in Dragon Age deserve a little slack-cutting.

Innovative conversation system? Well, my dear unsattisfied customer, I'm happy to let you know that they'll be implementing a modified version of that Mass Effect conversation circle-thingy in Dragon Age II. So now you have no room to complain.
As for the system in Origins, I personally liked it simply because you got to know exactly what your character was saying, not a phrase that might be similar to what they will say. Plus, it reminded me of KOTOR, which is always nice.

All my weapons and equipment are enchanted with Masterpiece or Paragon Immunity and Spell Resistance Runes (thank you Awakening for that) and I wear the Juggernaut armour set cause I decided to tank as well. Spells pretty much bounce off my character, not to mention I have all the Legionnaire Scout, Duelist and Assassin skills. I soloed the Archdemon at the end even without most of those upgrades to prove a point to my friend haha. It would be an epic fight against your mage, I'm sure.

The gameplay was significantly better than the rest of the game in that it was just alright. I liked the way it seemed like WoW, but condensed for the Xbox 360 controller.
Wait...how did we screw up Red Dwarf? And our Office just trounces your boring escapades.

I personally find it very repetitive with a decent story. The combat was boring at best. It certainly doesn't deserve to stand next to the likes of the Baldur's Gate Series and I don't understand why it is considered so well.
