Just to jump in here, and others may have already mentioned this later in the thread, but you do get into some pretty large battles later on, including ones with dragons.. at least one being exactly what you describe. As for the appeal of the game being a nostalgic one, I can see that being the case to some extent but for myself I had never played any of the games that DA:O is a supposed successor to. My roleplaying history is pretty much tied up in jrpgs and a few table top sessions of DnD. The closest I got to the Baldur's Gate games was screenshots in a magazine.
