Hello,
I recently acquired a pretty good PC, and have been looking for games to play on it. I played Dragon Age: Origins on PS3 with all the DLC, and I liked it a lot. However, I've been led to understand my by PC-gaming acquaintances that DA:O is much better on PC, and although it's alright on consoles, little niggles like the numbers on dialogue options that you know that, on a PC, you could just press instead of scrolling down clued me in to the fact that it was really supposed to be on PC. Also, the game takes like 10 mins to start up on my PS3 because it has to scan for DLC and connect to EA servers or something. I don't know how to skip this process, so purchasing a new version of the game that can be more easily started up without waiting through that might be good.
So, in short, with it being quite cheap by this point and compatible with my computer, do you think the benefits of a PC (mods, tactical interface, more shortcuts etc) make this game worth rebuying?

You can get it for $1 on Humble Bundle right now along with other EA titles. The PC version has better graphics, better controls (A hybrid of Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate), and mod support. I'd say that for this price it's a no-brainer. I'm not sure if it includes the Shale DLC though and that's the one you really want to have.

100% yes. I had it on PS4 but got it on PC a few years later and did not regret it. There are some great mods out there and I think the combat works much better with the PC.

Fair warning tho there is a memory leak issue that was never fixed so depending on your rig that might be a problem now and then, I have 8 gig RAM so I did not notice it until I had put in about 30 hours of gameplay. It caused a crash or two but nothing that bad. When it got to that point restarting the game every few hours seemed to help.

Ah, when Bioware wasn't shit. Those were the days.

What I wouldn't give for a proper DA:O sequel.

Same combat, same dialogue system, same overall atmosphere etc. Just updated graphics (so better quality, but in the same style - not Cartoony DA:2 butchery), and a new story. Who'd have thought it so hard?

I hate you Mike Laidlaw. I hate you so much it's unreal.

You know, it's not often you see people admit they literally just want the same game over again. At least you're honest?

OT: I didn't particularly enjoy Dragon Age when I tried to play it on the PS3. They did a fair job with the limited control scheme, but unless I'm misremembering due to nostalgia it was even clunkier than the much earlier Knights of the Old Republic titles. Also, it looks worse on consoles than it does on PC (and it still isn't anything that will set your PC on fire either).

I loved Dragon Age Origins to the death when I played it back then, before the series derailed in MMO shenanigans, political correctness and "accessibility", and I modded it to no end.

Absolutely go grab the high-res textures mod [http://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/15/?], beside that it's all fair game - you can alter the body models, have all sort of fantasy weapons, or even have an extra party slot for your trusty dog. There's over 1.000 mods [http://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/categories/?] available!

One thing to be mindful of is that Origins on PC has a nasty memory leak that Bioware never patched out. Make sure you've got at least 4 gigs of RAM or more, or you will not be able to play long sessions without it sapping all your memory and crashing.

The PC version remains the best game BioWare has made since being taken over by EA, too bad most of the people who created it have long left EAWare.

Also mods!

Has anyone made a pathfinding mod? Like a mod where you click on the map and/or minimap and your party automatically moves to that place, stopping if you get in a fight or something. That's all I really want to make that game great, but as far as I know no one's ever done it, and I really don't get why. Maybe it's hard to do, or maybe I just didn't look in the right place.

You know, it's in tier one of the current Humble Bundle. You could pick it up for a penny if you wanted to. I personally played both the PS3 and PC versions of DA:O, and I found it to be so vastly superior on a keyboard it was like a new game. It gives you far more control over combat. At that price just pick it up and see for your self which you prefer.

Thanks :) Although I dare say I'm not the only one.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it. All they had to do for the DA series was bring the graphics up to date, and provide us with more. Instead they butchered it into an absolute pile of tripe.

Any games company out there wanting a loyal fanbase of Final Fantasy 1 through 10 proportions just needs to pick up where DA:O left off. They'd make millions for years to come if done right.

this is all you need to know about the game to get it, because there is a mod to skip the fade in the tower of mages

also there's the overhead camera, which I don't remember if the consoles have it, but it's great for gauging the enemy resistance from behind walls, especially if they happen to have a mage or two, and it's also much easier to cast AoE spells thanks to that camera

be mindful tho, there's still the unfixed bug of some spells, particularly mana clash, causing game crashes

I think Dragon Age was the first game I got when I bought my new laptop late last year (it's the only gaming capable PC I've ever owned) and it spoiled me rotten. The difference between the PS3 version and the PC version is massive, even without mods (in fact, I haven't even installed any mods). What I particularly liked was the overhead camera view; I know it might not sound like much, but it makes battles much easier to navigate, and is more fun as a result. It's especially nice if you're into those old isometric cRPGs like Baldur's Gate.

Something something Humble Bundle....

But yes, I will also back that it's much, much better to play on a PC. I realized this trying to play DA 2 on PS3 and it being a lot more clumsier to manage. It's way easier to organize your team and tactics and having all your powers at your disposal versus the select few you are limited to on a console controller.

I'm also big on being able to toggle quickly between map and inventory and the codex. Keyboard shortcuts are my jam.

Also it's way easier to keep track of all my multiple saves, whereas my PS3 has super limited space and I can't have a million different saves (because I'm kind of obsessed with DA and the Keep just enables me).

That said, I have Inquisition on PS4 and I'm surprised at how much I like it on the console (except for having to wait for the DLC *shakes fist*).

For the record this is all coming from someone who is primarily a console gamer. PC gaming is still a fairly new thing for me.
